If Uchi has no fans I’m dead. I love this restaurant group with all my heart. My friends and I always say this is the best sushi hands down you can find anywhere in the US. From Oheya to Uchi, all the plates are so unique and innovative. It’s so worth the hype!! I’ve been to their locations in Austin, Houston, Miami, and LA and not one of them misses. The staff is always phenomenal. This was our 20th+ time there for my sisters birthday and they treated us beautifully and gifted us two plates. For dishes, you can’t go wrong but as a veteran, their Hama chili is the best thing on the menu. Most makimono roles are amazing so you can’t go wrong but we tried the spring roll recently and it’s a new fan favorite. Also a new try was the Hirame crudo with crunchy quinoa, sooo underrated and a new favorite!! The sen role and the sake roll with apple are also amazing. Their rotations of oysters with mignonette are so unique as well and my favorite oysters anywhere!!! For a vegetable option, the Brussels sprouts are great to share with the table. The coconut tapioca dessert is underrated and my favorite but the fried milk is probably the fan favorite in my friend group. Definitely ask for server recommendations (thank you michaela!!) because they always know best. Everything is so thought out and they take care of you so well even across the country.
P.S. begging uchi to open a nyc location

This sushi place truly lives up to its premium reputation. Everything we ordered was incredibly fresh and good, you can really taste the quality in every bite. It’s absolutely worth every penny.
The service was also excellent. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience even better. From start to finish, everything was top notch. Highly recommend if you’re looking for high quality sushi and great service!

Had the most amazing happy hour time at Uchi with Hudson!!! We came for a celebration and made us feel very welcome and appreciated. The happy hour menus were so yummy and fresh, and the service took time to explain each dish and to say how to best eat each one. Will come back on another day to try different things!!

Uchi absolutely lives up to the hype. The atmosphere is intimate and stylish, the service is attentive and knowledgeable, and every dish is beautifully prepared with incredible flavor. Nothing felt rushed, and every recommendation was spot-on.
It’s definitely a splurge, but the quality and overall experience make it worth it. Perfect for date night or a special occasion. Would happily return.

I’ve been coming to Uchi at least once a month for nearly ten years, and I’ll keep this short: it is hands down the best restaurant in Houston, and without question the best sushi in the area. It is one of those rare places that never disappoints. The food isn’t just great—it’s amazing.
The service is extraordinary. The staff works seamlessly as a team: your water is always refilled without asking, plates are cleared promptly, and what’s most impressive is how deeply knowledgeable the servers are about the menu.
I won’t even recommend specific dishes, because you truly can’t go wrong with anything here. The only two things I’ll say are: don’t miss the Fried Milk (and if you’re lucky, you might even snag a pint to take home), and be sure to visit during happy hour, when they offer unique small bites not regularly on the menu and absolutely worth trying.

Finally I was able to visit uchi in Houston and was very excited. I sat at the shusi bar and really enjoyed watching all the sushi being made with such precision. The service here is spectacular and made our experience great.
We came during happy hour and were able to try their happy hour 9 course tasting menu which was very good and fresh.. On top of that we order a couple of other things off the happy hour menu to satisfy us.
I will come back as they have a good drink special and their lychee Martini was really good but no old fashioned on their happy hour menu. I think the only downside was maybe our expectations were too high but everything was good. We just left a little unsatisfied especially for the price. I can see our bill being doubled if we come outside of happy hour which I wouldn’t be inclined to come back to.
Overall it is very good with high quality ingredients what amazing service just turned away by the price point. Great for special occasions!

I ordered the Hama Chili, Spicy Crunchy Tuna, Hirame Nigiri, Wagyu Tartar, Fried Milk, and the Hirame Usuzukuri.
Hama Chili — 5 stars. Every single time. It’s bright, citrusy, clean, and just melts. This is one of my favorite dishes at both Uchi and Uchiko. Never disappoints.
Spicy Crunchy Tuna — 3 stars. It was good. Not bad. But compared to similar spicy crunchy dishes I’ve had at Uchiko, it just didn’t hit the same. It felt a little one note.
Hirame Nigiri — 5 stars. So delicate. So simple. Perfect texture. This is the kind of dish that reminds you why Japanese cuisine is elite.
Wagyu Tartar — 2 stars. I love the concept. I love the idea of the fried toast with it. But it leaned too salty for me, and it overpowered the richness of the beef. I wanted to love it more than I actually did.
Hirame Usuzukuri — 5 stars. Light, refreshing, thinly sliced perfection. It felt elegant and intentional.
Fried Milk — 5 stars. I don’t even argue about this one. It’s warm, soft, balanced, and just comforting in the best way.
Overall? Uchi was good. Very good. But if I’m comparing it to my experience at Uchiko… Uchiko still wins for me. It was so good that I almost teared up, and it maybe because of the items I ordered but the entire experience felt more immersive. Uchi satisfied me. Uchiko transported me.

I m not sure what I m eating All the food texture alter or change to a funny taste to me A lobster don’t taste like lobster or the fish sushi don’t taste the same fish. Even the desert taste ordinary why the restaurant high rating or so expensive I have no damn idea why. I will not eat there again or I don’t recommend other people either. Expensive for nothing the one dish rice pot with mushrooms load with heavy butter oil and u feel like ur heart stuff with a bunch of clog grease to ur heart and guts to me look at the bottom of dish with oil. Also sushi picture fish look warm and I hope it is ok to eat

I’m not a big Sushi eater, but I decided to step out my comfort at Uchi. Great service, incredible food, and Chef Justin made the experience unforgettable. As someone who hasn’t eaten much sushi, I appreciated the variety he prepared for me—and everything was delicious. Uchi won me over.

I had been interested in trying uchi for a long time. Have been to quite a few of the sushi restaurants here in Houston including Oheya, the omakase restaurant attached to uchi. We got a reservation for the sushi bar and opted for the happy hour omakase for two. The pictures are attached, keep in mind that we ordered extra dish (uni and a tuna flight) at the end as we were still hungry. Given that the omakase was $60 per person, it was rather reasonable and didn’t feel bad about buying the extra stuff. There was not that much nigiri, less than four pieces I think, but the the hamachi crudo in the beginning was delightful, they had a bunch of a warm dishes that were good. The hand roll was nice if it was a salmon hand roll with I believe smoked trout roe. Dessert was a rather Vietnamese inspired dish which reminded me a lot of eating che. I was a little bit disappointed in the uni and tuna that we ordered extra. The uni that was provided was a Santa Barbara and Hokkaido uni. Was expecting a nice flash of salinity that you typically get while eating uni which sort of wasn’t there. And then the tuna flight which consisted of akami tuna Chutoro And otoro, had a mild fishy flavor to them which was surprising.
My favorite piece has got to be the eggplant nigiri. I was pleasantly surprised to see an array of vegetarian offerings and even a vegetarian omakase. They have the corner on this market and I will bring all of my vegetarian friends here for sure.
The atmosphere was absolutely wonderful. Busy crowded. Lively. Our chef was David who I liked a lot. Our server was very knowledgeable about the drink menu.
Overall I was very happy with the experience. I think the value might be just a little better at places like Aiko and hachi, but I should really withhold judgment until I try full omakase at uchi. It will be interesting to distinguish between the omakase at uchi versus oheya.
