Steak ‘n Shake, a classic American brand, was founded in 1934 in Normal, Illinois by Gus Belt who pioneered the concept of premium burgers and milkshakes. For over 85 years, the company’s name has been symbolic of its heritage. The word steak stood for steakburger. The term shake stood for hand-dipped milkshakes. Gus was determined to serve his customers the finest burgers and shakes in the business. Today, Steak ‘n Shake remains the better burger leader, serving premium 100% beef steakburgers, hand-dipped milkshakes, thin crispy fries, and more. Steakburgers are made without preservatives or artificial ingredients, topped with fresh produce, and always hand-crafted to order.

One of my favorite places for a burger and fries.
Always fresh and always exactly as ordered. Reasonable prices with easy self serve kiosks and drink machines. I’ve been to many Steak and Shakes in many states and never had a bad experience. I even got the food server to holler out “Joemamma” when my order was ready. He shook his head at me as I collected my food.

Was not a fan of the self serve it was confusing and not a good experience food was great staff was polite. Just hated the self serve. It didn’t make sense. There’s no explanation just the machines that’s it and nobody was there to help.

First experience with Steak ‘n Shake. Ordering was quick and easy, and our food was ready in no time. No exaggeration when I say this was one of the best fast food burgers I’ve ever had! The same goes for the fries, SO good deep fried in beef tallow. 10/10 highly recommend

Came here on Christmas Eve for a great meal and a shake and it was awesome. The manager Riley was completely polite, swift, courteous, and helpful, constantly checked on us and other guests doing table touches to make certain everyone was having a great experience and their food was alright. He was very well and professionally dressed, checked bathrooms, managed the back of the house and dining area at the same time. I’m quite impressed and very satisfied with the experience I’ve had here today and I will be coming here again more often. Highly recommend their Frisco melt, out of 4 things I’ve had this is my absolute favorite and it was fantastic every bite. My time here was very enjoyable and the food was phenomenal. 5 stars

The cooks are so nice!! Food is great!!! The short ginger manager blue shirt with glasses? a little moody- possibly in need of anger management. My friends and I were enjoying our food in the dining area- and start hearing the manager crashing out?!!! throwing stuff in the back and continuous cursing- I hope not at the rest of the staff. very unprofessional and uncomfortable.

Steak ‘n Shake located near Concord Mills Mall is a great choice for an inexpensive burger meal.
It is completely self serve (a kiosk where you order food – no cashier is available) which isn’t a problem, as if you need to mention a specific request, there ARE employees and even the cook right there that you can ask for whatever you need customized beyond the ordering process (no salt on fries etc).
Workers mostly speak Spanish however there are English speaking employees there so again, not an issue. The food was good – I do prefer my burgers not smashed which is a default there so that is what it is. The bun was great and the meat flavorful. Onion rings have a white material on them (from being in the same deep fryer as the fries which have that) and it is not salt. I was concerned that they salted their onion rings but they do not do that.
Manager was friendly and helpful! Solid choice

Every time a friend get-together happens at Concord Mills, I am overjoyed by the sheer fact that Steak ‘n Shake is nearby, since that means THE UNHOLY ADDICTIVE MESS THAT IS FRISCO MELT is imminent and in my future. It’s likely the sauce (it’s ALWAYS the sauce). The melted cheese! The seasoned smashed patty! And the crispiness of that toast! …Wow, I need to stop talking myself into driving another two hours for a simple sandwich.

For those lucky enough to live nearby (or maybe not so lucky, given the insanity of Charlotte traffic ), I hope you never take this sandwich for granted. I think I’ve tried Steak ‘n Shake’s butter burger years ago and that was super delicious (and I’m not even a burger girlie ). I also enjoy their matchstick fries and dipping them into the Frisco sauce cups (I about lost my mind when I realized sauce cups were available —even though they’re 25 cents, it felt worth it to me ).

I haven’t had one of their milkshakes in a while, but I remember when they had cereal-themed shakes. Their Frosted Flakes milkshake was absolutely divine—please, pleeaassee bring cereal milkshakes back, Steak ‘n Shake Team!

One practical and less food-addled note: If eating inside, your receipt will have a QR code for drinks. Once they hand over your tray of food and cups at the counter, look towards your right. There is a QR code scanner to the left of the drink machine; scan your code there, and the drinks will be available to pour into your cup. Without the code, the machine will lock up.

Curiously, I’ve gone back for refills throughout my meal using the same QR code, so I’m not really sure why the security with the QR code… perhaps other guests have come in to abuse the drink machine? Or maybe that code imposes a time limit on the amount of refills one can get?

No idea, but still recommended overall for the Frisco Melt. (Kind of sad it’s not one of the default options in the “Recommended” section for this review, but oh well, I hope my love for this sandwich transcends Google Review analytics to anyone who reads these reviews. ✨) Will update with more Frisco Melt images in the future! I’m always too hungry and impatient to get a good cross-section photo.

We went at an early dinner time so there weren’t very many people here. The restaurant was very clean. The food came out very quick and the shakes came soon after. We were eating with a group of six and there were no mistakes on the food. Everything was prepared exactly like we expected.

We had a disappointing experience all around. The burgers were cold (likely because they gave us one that was stacked on a counter next to the grill), the milkshakes had no toppings in them, and we could never get a drink because the automatic drink machine that requires you to scan your receipt to fill a cup continually timed out. We had to scan the receipt half a dozen times to fill a cup 1/2 way. For the life of me I can’t figure how this place status in business.

The place was all right. It was super outdated floors was cracked. Floors were slippery. It was hardly any workers. It was self served. The drink machine broke overall it’s all right if you just want a quick bite but not like sit down and stay for a good while.
