I had a wonderful time at butcher and singer. It was my 36th birthday. I had no one join me but they made me feel like I had someone had the butcher salad which was excellent. Porterhouse for one one. The only thing I have to say about that is it could have been seasoned a little better but other than that it was excellent. Mashed potatoes were on point. Super creamy, delicious their biscuits 10 out of 10 creme brulee was phenomenal as well. atmosphere was spectacular my server Ben top notch went above and beyond to make my birthday special, highly recommend this place to anyone that is looking for a good bite to eat in Philadelphia. I am from New York City so this was definitely a different experience. Thank you again to the staff at butcher and singer and once again thank you to my server Ben for making my day special
If you are looking for the definitive “Power Dining” experience in Philadelphia, look no further than Butcher and Singer. From the moment you step into the soaring, Great Gatsby-esque dining room, you know you’re in for something special. Our recent meal was a choreographed symphony of classic flavors and impeccable technique.
The Cold & Warm Starters
We began with a selection from the raw bar and traditional French appetizers.
• Chilled Lobster & Shrimp Cocktails: The presentation on a bed of crushed ice was stunning. Both the lobster and the jumbo shrimp were exceptionally fresh, sweet, and firm, served with a cocktail sauce that had just the right amount of horseradish kick.
• Escargot: These were swimming in a rich, herbaceous garlic butter that demanded to be soaked up by the accompanying crusty bread. A quintessential steakhouse classic done to perfection.
The Main Event: Steaks and Chops
The kitchen’s ability to achieve a perfect char while maintaining a buttery, tender interior is unmatched.
• The Signature Steaks: Whether you go for the classic cut or the Steak Oscar (topped with a generous portion of lump crabmeat and velvety Hollandaise), the quality of the beef is evident in every bite. The crust was seasoned beautifully, locking in all the juices.
• Lamb Chops: For those looking beyond beef, the lamb chops were a revelation. They were thick, perfectly medium-rare, and possessed a deep, savory flavor that stood up to the heavy hitters on the menu.
The Essential Sides
A steak is only as good as its companions, and the sides here are stars in their own right.
• Creamed Spinach: This is the gold standard. It was rich, silky, and seasoned with a hint of nutmeg and garlic—easily some of the best in the city.
• Garlic Broccolini: A much-needed pop of brightness and crunch. The sliced toasted garlic added a wonderful aromatic layer to the tender-crisp stalks.
The Grand Finale
We couldn’t leave without sampling the legendary dessert menu.
So for starters it did unfortunately take like 15 mins for us to be seated but I’ll chalk that up to them being busy, and it was two days after the snow storm so they probably were short staffed. This is my only con, and I’ll still say the service was amazing.
Must haves are the: shellfish platter, delmonico, and the stuffed hash brown. And I got the sweet nothing mocktails since I’m doing a dry 90 days and it was delicious. The ambience here is very relaxed, and the bussers were very quick to remove dirty plates. Our waitress was also amazing, unfortunately I didn’t grab her name but I will be returning very soon. Thanks b&s!!
