Went in wanting some home style southern cooking! Got the goods handed to us, smelled so good. We opened and smelled the seasoning before we even seen it. The food was not dry either!! Let me tell you, everything was MOUTH WATERING! Wanting more! The service was top tier! 10/10 would come back again!

I ordered the chopped steak, cornbread dressing and mash potatoes with gravy. The mashed potatoes was sweet like sugar was added… really ti mash potatoes, the cornbread dressing hard way to much sage in it which would explain the color, the chopped steak with onions and gravy was boosting. Now I would order that again. But suggesting they need help with the other sides

This was my first time coming here. I ordered inside and took my food home.
Ambiance: 5/10…it’s a little dark and dated…it’s not very inviting, I would never want to dine-in here
Customer service: 9/10, no complaints, but the wait to place my order was kind of long because the person taking to-go orders, were also running the food out to dine-in customers.
I ordered:
• Meatloaf…4/10
o No flavor, no seasoning
o Good quality beef and large portion
• black eyed peas…2/10
o salty, salty, salty
o no flavor except salt
o Cooked perfectly (not over cooked, not under cooked, just salty)
• mac and cheese…7/10
o not much flavor
o pasta overcooked
o reheats well and is homemade from scratch, not boxed
and
• Country fried steak…8/10
o Huge chunk of good quality meat, they do not pound the cube steak before cooking it
o Needs a little bit more seasoning, but taste good
• Candied yams…8/10
o fresh, homemade using real sweet potatoes, not canned yams
o perfectly candied
o too much nutmeg
o needs more butter after they have candied
• Mash potatoes and gravy…6/10
o fresh, homemade using real potatoes

The general condition of the restaurant was 6/10. They changed the seating area so that the seating was all against the windows. The middle was cleared as if it was a dance floor. Looks like it was an Applebee’s. The restroom was passable it was clean. 6/10. Service was great! 10/10. As soon as I came in I was greeted warmly and friendly. I was the first one in. When I returned from the restroom there were several other patrons. I was bit apprehensive until the food came. Order the three wing dinner. It was fresh and tasty! 10/10. Overall because of the food and service. I would give this place a 7.5/10.

Yesterday Feb 3rd at 1:50 pm I went o SHR on Poplar and Kirby. Worst meal ever served and received. $59 dollars and some cents. Still have ticket. 3 plates,all yams were burnt, cabbage liquor spilled on all other sides and entree. That guy must just dipped the spoon in cabbage with liquid and all, pork chops and fish dump ed in salt,fish old an cold not freshly cooked, porkchops burnt along with dumped in salt, we couldn’t eat these meals, grand daughter French fries were old and overcooked, my caramel cake was dry as a power house. If weather so cold I would have taken back. Got a neighbor to take me to order. Sooo disappointed and spent to much for no edible meals. Never again. Plus that youn cook had no hair net nor walking in and out of restaurant. Didn’t see any gloves. Lady who took order was professional. Bagged what was given. Sooo angry at such a sloppy meals by afro American cooks. Shannon you southern hands your reputation is and has gone down in the dirt.

This place is outstanding!! The only reason I gave the food a 4 star is because the meatloaf was too tomato-y and the potatoes were just average. The macaroni is some of the best I’ve ever had! The cabbage was good and seasoned and the cornbread tastes just like home. And the best part of all is my picky eating kids loved the food as well

Just left the Winchester location I ordered the chicken& dressing, yams and greens. Food was an easy 2 out of ten. Cornbread was the best thing on the plate and just look at these yams smh. Gots to be more careful where I spend my coins.

My husband who is an OUT OF STATE TRUCKER went by the establishment to grab a meal & was informed they close at 6pm but yet they’ve failed to update to google & their website hours. I will say this is a horrible look on management NOT being organized or considering potential customers that are inconvenienced. He caught an uber there only be stuck outside hungry knowing Memphis isn’t the safe place. Do better

Impressed with the service, décor, and food quality at Southern Hands Homestyle restaurant. Reservation recommended. Complimentary valet parking available. Beautiful and relaxing ambiance inside and on the patio. The bar offers a wide selection of top-shelf liquors. Loved the spicy and refreshing Ring of Fire cocktail, as well as the perfectly made Old Fashioned. Tried the Tomahawk Pork Chop, Half Roasted Duck, and Blacken Shrimp Pasta. The pork chop was delicious with amazing sides, especially the brussels sprouts. The duck was good, while the shrimp pasta portion was large but had only four shrimp. Friendly staff, classy atmosphere, great food, and well-crafted cocktails. Reasonable prices. Perfect for a date night or celebration.
