The Glass Onion is one of Charleston’s original home grown neighborhood-based, locally focused, all natural restaurants. Owner and Executive Chef Chris Stewart opened the restaurant in 2008 with fellow culinary colleagues. Supporting local farmers and purveyors on almost every dish and drink on the menu. An eighth generation Alabama native, Stewart’s love and appreciation of southern food shows up throughout the menu which features comfort food and reflects his time growing up in Alabama, and his influences from experience in New Orleans and in the Lowcountry.
Upbeat spot serving refined, locally sourced soul-food favorites in charming environs.

We had to have dessert as we heard that the pastry chef was excellent. We had the banana pudding and the bread pudding and we loved every bite. We will be sure to go back there if we ever visit the area again.
The Glass Onion serves delicious locally sourced food that’s cooked from scratch. I had fried shrimp with a house made remoulade, side of perfectly seasoned collards, and cornbread. My husband had catfish that was so tender it fell apart! The tartar sauce was also made in house, and delicious! Their menu changes daily…WOW!
The staff was attentive and friendly, service was excellent. Will be back in the next time we’re in Charleston!
Our server ( Haley?) was just the cutest! So bubbly, knowledgeable and attentive.
We were a party of 6. We had shrimp po boy, chicken sandwich, pork chops, gumbo and shrimp and grits. Everything was fresh and excellent. My son said it was the best chicken sandwich he’s ever had and he’s had a lot!
The macaroni salad is amazing!
We even bought a couple of cookbooks. Can’t wait to try some recipes.
Don’t pass this place by!
Best trout I’ve ever had. Moist (but not wet), fill of flavor.
The rice and butter beans sounds blase’, but was so good!
The dessert was just right. Made in house. Taste it, and it’s obvious!
