Some of the best apple pie I’ve ever had. The service is great. Everyone greets you with a smile even when the line is out the door. We only had to wait a few minutes in line to get to the register. We got the Dutch apple pie with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. They are not shy with the toppings. We brought back 4 pies with us to share with family and friends. With each whole pie being around 20-30 dollars.

We made the drive from Oceanside to Julian on a slightly rainy day it couldn’t have been more perfect. The downtown Julian Pie Company location was completely packed, so we decided to stop at the bakery and headquarters on the way out. Best decision ever.
We had fresh apple pie with ice cream (you can choose vanilla or cinnamon and that day, the cinnamon ice cream is sounded like the perfect addition ) and my son swore they had one of the best hot chocolates he’s ever had. He isn’t a big apple pie fan, but they have some other options and he opted for chocolate chip cookies. Full transparency here, the hot chocolate looked like it came from a machine, but the cozy vibe of the day made everything taste better. Just a heads up: it’s not dog-friendly inside, only the patio, so plan accordingly if it’s cold. You could leave your dog out in the car if you brought them, but we ended up freezing out on the patio lol . Still, I highly recommend stopping at the bakery location when you’re in Julian.

This is a tourist trap. I saw this little ‘quaint’ place on TikTok and since we were already in the area, decided to stop by. I was underwhelmed with the selection. For a pie place- I expected to be wowed. I was the opposite of wowed. They have a few basic pies- mostly fruit pies. Apple, Dutch Apple, Mixed Berry, Strawberry Rubarb. No lattice work. No key lime. No chocolate silk. No strawberry. And toppings ($3 extra) icecream, whipcream, cheddar cheese. We had the rhubarb strawberry pie (nice flaky crust) a sugar cider donut (I’ve had better) and a large coffee (I’ve had better gas station coffee). Creamer comes in those little containers, most of which seemed to be half opened. I would have appreciated half and half at least. It was ALL just OK. The coffee was less than ok. They also have a couple types of muffins and cookies. The prices are absolutely insane, and they didn’t ask for a tip. The interior is ok. Lots of trinkets, jams, souvineer mugs, $60 branded sweatshirts. They do have a dog friendly patio with a few tables and chairs- which is nice. Very limited cramped indoor seating. Not exactly stroller or wheelchair friendly. Plenty of parking. Not sure if anything is ‘vegan friendly’ – did not see any signage.

Shrinkflation at its worst. $28 for a take-n-bake Julian Pie Company pie. It wasn’t too many years ago that it was $10 less. And this crap (see photo) is what they provided for our Thanksgiving dinner–more air than apple. There was a thin layer of apple and more huge air space under the crust. Absolute crap product for a huge price.

The dutch apple pie slice with vanilla ice cream was divine. Warm pie and cold ice cream yum! It can be easily shared by two people. This has to be the best apple pie I’ve tried till date.

A convenient place outside of Julian on the San Yasabel road where you can buy a whole pie bake or a take and bake pie. You can also sit down for a good cup of Pete’s coffee and a slice of pie, with or without ice cream. You can also buy apple cider and other apple products. We tried the coffee and it was freshly made. Will make this one of our regular places during travel.

The store I visited on a friend’s recommendation was well organized. If you visit late, the menu item you want may be sold out. I recommend enjoying the apple pie with vanilla ice cream rather than having it alone. Compared to the main store, this location feels more relaxed.

Despite the fact that this place consistently has a very long line of people waiting, it is absolutely worth the wait. It’s definitely one of the must-stop establishments whenever we are in the area or just passing through.
The pies are the signature offering here, and they are truly delicious. However, the coffee is not recommended; it’s not very good and the options are quite limited.

The Julian Pie Company is a must-visit in Julian, California. Their Dutch Caramel Apple pie is a game-changer! It’s a masterclass in texture and flavor, with a crunchy crumb topping, tender apples, and warm caramel that’s divine. I love pairing it with vanilla ice cream – the creamy contrast is perfection.
The original apple pie is also a standout, with a flaky crust and a filling that’s balanced between sweet and tart. But the Dutch Caramel Apple pie is my fave.
The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, with outdoor seating and friendly staff.
If you’re heading to Julian, stop by and try one or two of their legendary pies.
