Hafner’s Restaurant & Tavern was opened in 1970 by Jake and his son Peter Hafner and has remained in the family ever since. Since 1981 Peter’s brother Thomas has owned and run the business along with his wife, Cris. Tom is (very slowly) stepping back, and his son Jake Hafner and his daughter Mackenzie Hafner-Ellis will be the third generation of Hafner’s to run the business.
Lodge-style sports bar & grill boasts a fireplace, 20+ TVs & a jumbo screen for the main event.

Over the years, I had heard that Hefner’s restaurant had a good reputation. I’m sorry I waited so long to visit the restaurant for the first time because we had a very enjoyable lunch there. I ordered buffalo shrimp as an appetizer with ranch dressing for dipping. The fried shrimp were coated with a tangy buffalo sauce dipping it in the ranch dressing maybe think that maybe shrimp was better with buffalo sauce than chicken. This was followed by a Reuben sandwich with came with potato chips. I requested an extra side of Russian dressing to dip the sandwich in it was excellent. The dark bread was toasted nicely, the cheese was fully melted, and there was and abundance of thinly sliced very lean corned beef. As good as my lunch was, my wife ordered a scallops which proved to be outstanding. She chose to have them broiled and they came out cooked through, not raw in the center as we’ve experienced the number of restaurants, and sweet and tender. Perfect.

Really good place. Service was very nice. No rush and no wait for seats. Bar is nice as well. My prime rib was ok. A little bit too thick but good flavor. The French onion pull apart bread was very tasty. Will be back to try other items on the menu.

Saturday regular here. Alyssa and Tawny are the best. It’s always packed and they always crush it. If there ever comes a day where they are not here we will go elsewhere. Love Hafner’s food and atmosphere. It’s always fun.

I had heard so many good things. I respect having young inexperienced servers because we all have to start somewhere but the service was so incredibly not up to par by any means. She was sweet but just not attentive. Has to ask for things twice. Got our appetizers quick but then saw a whole table seated, served, and finished their entire dinner before we got our dinner. I received my burger and the bun was so overcooked it was flaking apart, the burger was a thin charred patty. Took one bite and quite literally couldn’t even eat anything past that point because I was in disbelief. My partner ordered a filet and requested it to be medium well and it was fully cooked through with absolutely no color to it, lacking flavor, absence of appealing plating, etc. I think this place would be a great place for drinks at the bar but to be seated and to eat a dinner is an absolute no. The pricing made me believe it was decent food. I have had better food at a fast food restaurant in all honesty. I’ve truly never had such an unpleasant experience before. Maybe they were just having a bad night. Who knows. But I will 100% never be back.

Had an appointment in Liverpool so I googled restaurants in area and Jake Hafner’s was the first tavern to pop up. So we tried it and so happy we did. Hubs got crab stuffed shrimp with a side of rice and side salad. Salad was huge. He said ut was very good and he was full after. I had the shaved steak sandwich w fries and order a side of mac n cheese. While the shaved steak was a little crunchy due to being over cooked, the au jus made up for it. Such flavor. The mac n cheese was really delicious, Hubs said it reminded him of what his mom made. Large beer and wine selection.
Our waitress was wonderful, young man came around several times asking how everything was. If an empty dish sat on the edge, staff was quick to remove. Inside is very quaint, rustic feel. All around great.

We love this place! Food was excellent–my son said it was the best steak he’d ever had. It all sounded so good that I had a hard time deciding, but the special that the waiter recommended was delicious. We love the atmosphere and the staff makes you feel like you’re a regular! Highly recommended!

The tables are uncomfortable, too low, and too space out to sit appropriately. I was charged 5 dollars for a side salad substitute. The food was poorly seasoned, either too much or too little. And our appetizer was cold and bland. The House chips were crumbled and unseasoned.

1st off- We always tip minimum 20%. It’s the standard, it’s customary, and it’s just being a decent human being. We came to Jake Hafners to celebrate my wife’s birthday, and the experience was a disappointment from the moment we sat down. We had a reservation for a party of 13 that we made the week prior, yet the service made it feel like we were an inconvenience. Our waitress—Adela, if we caught her name correctly—was extremely rude to everyone at the table. She wasn’t helpful, she wasn’t attentive, and she definitely wasn’t friendly. Her attitude was curt and dismissive all night, and she single-handedly turned what should have been a fun birthday celebration into an uncomfortable, awkward experience.
What makes it worse is that my wife planned to surprise our server with a very generous birthday tip. Within minutes, it was obvious that wasn’t happening. The service didn’t come close to earning anything beyond a standard tip, and honestly not even that, but we still left the usual 20%.
The atmosphere at Jake Hafners was nice, but the food was underwhelming across the board. My burger was ordered medium and came out well-done, and that was basically the story at the entire table—everyone’s food was overcooked or just off. On top of that, I asked if we could order some of the chicken wings they had on special for the football game in the other room as an appetizer. Even though the whole party was ordering full entrees, she refused and said we couldn’t order them. No explanation, just another blunt, unhelpful response.
Overall, Jake Hafners completely missed the mark. We came to celebrate a birthday and left disappointed, frustrated, and honestly surprised at how poor the service was. The attitude, the food, and the experience as a whole just weren’t acceptable.

Me and some coworkers decided this was our top pick for lunch. It didn’t disappoint. The wings were really good and my favorite, sweet potatoe fries were served crispy and perfect. I couldn’t dip them in syrup, but the presentation was nice. We’ll be back.
