Yes, this spot in Downtown Kingston has a real wood oven and delivers the tastiest thin crust European style pizzas in the area. Our minor quibble was the center of the pizza was a little soggy, but that was over ruled by the quality of the thick cut bacon on the pizza. It was life changing! Nice and reasonably priced wine list that includes local bottles; we heartily recommend the Ontario Malivoire Rose with your meal. Pleasant and efficient service in this busy restaurant. We recommend you reserve in advance to dine here.

Wooden Heads is an excellent choice for a nice dinner! It is on the pricier side, but quite tasty, despite sometimes being a bit salty. The location is also very lovely, both inside and outside! Just a note that the patio can get chilly, even in the summer, as the wind from Lake Ontario makes an appearance 🙂

Let me start off with our bar tender was absolutely amazing!! Matt did a fabulous job, with drinks and food service and light conversation . He also went out of his way when I noticed our appetizer had mango sauce on it (menu did not mention), and I have an allergy to mango. I asked to make sure it was, and he was able to give me a suggestion for something else. I also didn’t think to mention the mango allergy since its not a normal thing with pizza. Regardless he was amazing and made sure the kitchen had coconut shrimp out in what felt like 2 mins. They were honestly the best coconut shrimp ever. Highly recommend! Our pizzas were also FIRE! I took the special which had sweet potato and chicken, and the other one slash off the menu. Both had such different flavours and textures it was heaven for our mouths. We will definitely be back, but next time booking a reservation… or not since it was fun at the bar!

When I entered this establishment I was immediately charmed by the atmosphere and old brick pizza oven. I decided to order a classic pizza where I was overwhelmed by its outstanding taste and phenomenal texture. The crust was perfect and counteracted the sauce in a perfect manner. Overall, I would highly recommend and will be returning to try out something more adventurous!

Wow!
Everyone at our table was completely satisfied with the food — not a single complaint! The staff were incredibly welcoming and genuinely caring, which made the whole experience even better.
We ordered the pesto pizza with roasted garlic, pasta with mushrooms, and nut salads — and honestly, one was better than the other! Every dish was bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection.
We absolutely loved everything and will definitely be coming back.

We made a reservation for 5pm on a Saturday – the place was busy so I’d recommend to make a reservation if you can. It’s a bit loud inside, not because the music is too loud, but just from so many people talking in a small space. It didn’t dampen our visit at all, but if youre looking for a quiet dinner out, this might not be the place for you. The tables are close together too, so it is impossible to have a somewhat private conversation. Again, not something that dampened our visit, but something that others might want to consider.

Our server was Shannon and she was absolutely lovely. She was friendly and attentive. My husband ordered the Campagna pizza (pomodoro sauce, mozzarella, mushrooms and double smoked bacon, my son ordered the Classico (pomodoro sauce, mozzarella and pepperoni) and I went with our server Shannon’s recommendation, which was the Milanese Bocca (breaded chicken with prosciutto and smoked mozzarella, with Calabrese cream sauce, and upgraded from roasted potatoes to the potato cake and it was the best decision! The boys loved their pizzas – it’s clear they are made with fresh, quality ingredients and there wasn’t even a speck of grease on their plates. The Milanese Bocca is quite possibly the best meal I’ve ever had at a restaurant. My son even helped me finish it after he was finished with his pizza and he just kept saying, “oh my god” after each bite – yes, it’s that good! The chicken was perfect, it didn’t taste or feel heavy like most fried chicken does, the potato cake was ahhhhhhhhmazing – so light and so flavourful, the calabrese cream sauce just pulled it all together perfectly.
Thank you Shannon for the recommendation!

We all agreed that we can’t wait to come back and it will be our go to place for dinner everytime we visit Kingston.

Great service, delicious food.
I went to there on Monday evening, there was no table to sit. So I went next day. Still lots of people came.
Pizza crust is thin and cripy, also clean and simple tasty. I really recommand this place.

It’s so busy at Wooden Heads, and for good reason. The pizzas are the star of the show. I made my own this time with smoked muzz, onion, and mushroom, and it was fantastic. My wife had prosciutto and arugula. We split the beet salad, which was also wonderful. You can read other reviews on here about how great the crust and flavors are of all the pizzas, and I concur. This place was a hit twenty years ago when I first came, and remains wonderful today. Great place to take the parents if you’re a Queen’s student, great place to go with friends, just a fun atmosphere with delicious food.

After a bit of an uncomfortable start (more on that later), our evening at Wooden Heads went wonderfully. Two of us ordered the Poulet Baton Rouge, and it was fantastic. The sauce, the chicken, the potato cake…wow…

The other two had the Rigatoni Begnini, which again was excellent.

Service was quick and attentive, without being obtrusive.

(As for that uncomfortable start….one member of our party had arrived early to the restaurant, and having only been given the address to meet at without the name of the place, and having somehow missed the sign with that name, went inside and was greeted with “Welcome to Wooden Heads!”. Well in the buzz of music and conversation, our guest misheard it as “Welcome, you Woodenhead!” and was frightfully offended, as she does, in fact, have a wooden head. That is, her head is composed entirely of fine-quality ashwood, contoured to resemble exactly a human head. Indeed, in all but the most glaring of sunlight, the exquisite workmanship of her wooden head, combined with her artful makeup, render her impervious to exposure. So she was mortally embarrassed to have been called “Wooden Head”, and felt outed and cheapened by the experience.

However, once we arrived we quickly sorted things out and she was relieved almost to the point of tears when we explained things.

So…the evening was saved, the meal and service were wonderful, and the only negative at all, and it is rather small, a nit, really, is that an ash borer beetle managed to drill in from the back of our guest’s head as we sat out on the patio, and she had some repair work, filling, mudding, taping and sanding to do when she got home. All things she knew well how to do. All in all, a delightful evening!)
