Can’t forget to mention, the patio is amazing with a trout stream and water wheel. There are also various flower installations depending on the season. SPRING is our personal favorite
To start, we ordered the half dozen oysters and half order of wedge salad. Both were incredibly sub par. The oysters had obviously been sitting in a chiller for awhile, had little to no brine left, and were chewy and a bit fishy tasting.
The wedge salad had about 6 crumbles of burnt bacon on it, served with one round slice of tomato sitting on the plate. The iceberg was acceptable but nothing special.
We then ordered the chicken pot pie, the bacon wrapped cream cheese filled cherry peppers, and fries.
The fries were lukewarm and while crispy, they weren’t great.
The pot pie was big, but the chicken tasted canned and was somehow dry inside of the sauce.
The real disappointment was the cherry peppers. Instead of the menu offering, what we got was some sort of green pepper stuffed with pimento cheese wrapped in burnt bacon.
Listen- I know that I still got food and while it was decent, it was not what was offered on the menu. When I notified the bartender about it, he offered to take it away and refund it. At this point, I was still hungry and I had lost my faith in the food quality after having tried 4 different items so far, so I chose to just keep it. He offered a dessert- I asked what they had but was not really wanting a dessert so I declined.
The whiskey cherry cokes on happy hour are not worth even the $9 HH price. They are small and mostly ice.
I’d give it a 1 but the bartender was friendly and attentive and it is a nice atmosphere. However I definitely won’t return.
We were billed in full for our items, despite the poor quality and misleading menu description. I understand I was offered a free dessert but that’s not what I wanted, and feel we should’ve been comped something as well paying customers who gave it a fair chance and still had a poor experience. To me, that was $100 wasted which is disappointing, especially during a time of great inflation when it’s not commonplace for most people to drop $$$ on a meal out.
Overall, I think Jax rides on its historical coattails but lacks and true depth or quality. The overall vibe and food feels tired. The bartenders are friendly and attentive, but something feels off about the quality of food, drink and service.
They even went so far as to make us personalized matches. 20/10 we will be back
