I ended up ordering the honey butter biscuit chicken sandwich, though in hindsight I probably should have come back another day. When I opened my to go containers, I noticed the biscuit was much smaller than described on the menu. The chicken portion itself was a good size but lacked seasoning, and the biscuit fell apart easily while eating. The light flavors of the butter, honey, and egg helped improve the sandwich slightly, but overall it was underwhelming.
The potatoes were the standout of the meal and easily the best item. The grits came in second, with the sandwich ranking last. For $15, I didn’t feel the sandwich offered good value, especially compared to similar options elsewhere that are more flavorful at a lower price.
The atmosphere was not as welcoming and could be improved, along with the biscuit quality and seasoning of the grilled chicken. That said, I genuinely want to support Black-owned businesses, so I plan to return and give it another chance.
I’m grateful that an establishment like this exists in Dallas, and I look forward to volunteering and revisiting the market in the future.
I had Bonton Fried Chicken, Purple Hull Peas, Mac and Cheese.
My mother had Homestyle Catfish, Mac and Cheese and Farm Greens Blend.
We were treated to delicious slices of Sweet Potato Pie which sealed the deal.
Everything was farms fresh and delicious.
I know the Sweet Potato Pie looks eaten. I took a bite before I took the picture.
We couldn’t afford everything we ordered but it was worth every penny. We were treated exceptionally by the entire waitstaff, head chef and owner. We hope to go back in the near future.
It is a lovely dining spot with southern down home dining. You can eat inside or on their outside patio that oversees the garden that they are well-known for in the southern area. We chose to sit outside. The patio is covered and we’ll ventilated even for a May afternoon. It was over 90 outside and I couldn’t tell! …and I hate the heat!
We order the fries, fried green tomatoes, biscuit flight, chicken wing plate and catfish plate. The service was a bit slow, however, they had a fairly large tour group having lunch that day. Overall, the food was “good”, but not well seasoned for my liking. Now, if you like a good clean, “let the food speak for itself” flavors, it is worth the trip. I still love going here, because it is a great place to visit.
We missed the goats, but got to see the garden a bit. We also missed the coffee shop and the marketplace because everything closes at 3pm.
I would say, if you want a fun, relaxed morning or early afternoon experience, this is definitely a go-to! It was an overall great experience!
They were out of the fried fish, which was very good . That would be my go-to dish.
Along with the heated buttermilk pie. The was swamp tea was refreshing well needed for this hot weather. Nice cool drink.
Will Revisit again
