It felt like customers were an inconvenience to her rather than the reason the business even exists. There was zero professionalism, zero accountability, and absolutely no effort to fix the situation. If this is the standard they allow their staff to operate at, it’s no surprise the atmosphere feels so unwelcoming.
I will not be returning, and I strongly suggest others think twice before spending their money here.
Major Pro’s – Their bread is Devine, crisp outside without being tough or jagged, and a soft cloud of pure YUM inside the bread. Their meats and cheeses always seem fresh & tasty. Their toppings are immense and almost always fresh tasting (2x in several years the lettuce seemed a bit “not so fresh” lol. But 2x out of 50+ visits over many years is pretty good!). I love their “Do’s & Don’ts” wall & table lists, and other signs for fun while you wait. They have a very large menu with options for just about everyone.
They’re app & rewards for app members are pretty good, often giving free food, drinks, and of course free subs through accumulation of points or special events.
Caring About Customers Safety Over Revenue – I do miss the bean sprouts they originally offered on the Turkey Tom, but I get that Bean Sprouts run a Hugh risk of bacteria and appreciate JJ’s Pre-emotive removal showing they care more about their customers than their profits and possible loss of customers. It’s NOT hard to accumulate points.
They have options for low-carb or no bread sandwiches with their sandwiches. The No bread uses lettuce leaves to have all the delicious tastes fixin’s & still a crunch like texture. For low carb they have wraps for all their sandwiches.
They have a new but I believe temporary promotion as of today (November 2024) where if you order after 2pm you get to combo it for FREE! A FREE LARGE drink & 1 side and they have way more than just chips for sides. While the premium sides you do still have to pay the up charge it’s not much. I tried their pesto pasta salad which was their highest up charge premium side for only $1.50 more. While I love pasta salad and pesto, I wasn’t a fan. Very creamy based, while I was expecting more of a oil base & what I normally see as pesto. Won’t be ordering it again, but they try to be original and so I’m sure it has its fair share of fans.
Downsides – My reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is the GIANT increase in pricing over the last few years. I get inflation, but a sandwich shouldn’t cost no combo/drink/chips included) $10 for a regular size 8”, and then $14-$19+ TAX for the next size up which they call fittingly “Giant” as it’s a 16” sub. That’s the cost for ONLY the SANDWICH, not including any drinks or chips. (Yes is quite bigger than most sandwich shops, and yes the food is fresh and has a Devine taste, but it puts a limit on who I can take there, how often they’ll win JJ pick due to costs, and almost seems to monetarily penalize those that an 8” isn’t enough. Its not even a “good” pick IF you want the same sandwich and toppings to split it as it comes out to be about the same cost if you ordered two different 8” sandwiches. Also the “I’ll eat the rest later” doesn’t really work as it’s soggy after hours being made (though I love JJ so much I’ve ate my soggy leftover sandwich lol). But the pricing and no savings for going bigger seems unfair to me. My man needs more than an 8” but when a sub is $14-$19 PLUS tax, well no matter how big it is that’s CLOSE to an inexpensive date night Chili’s or Outback especially when you add in drinks or combo drinks & chips or up charged premium sides. To me and I’m sure others a sandwich shop should be fun and tasty lunch or dinner sandwich. Not a $30-$40 for 2 cost after tax, drinks, or combo drink & chips.
Also, I wish they had a size in between like a 12” sub, with a 12” price. The only other option they have is a smaller sandwich 4”, which really would only feed a child or someone dieting. The price wouldn’t be a driven factor, as not that much cheaper than the 8”.
Overall though it’s a great sandwich shop, with fresh and delicious food, one of a kind taste, bread that’s perfectly balanced, options for vegetarians, dieters, wrap lovers, and a great customer experience. If you’re like me and eating out is a once a week thing, this would be a great place to try and try again 🙂
It was pretty quick, I loved the lettuce bacon sub and being this was my friend’s first time coming here, he wanted to try it out.
I would say he enjoyed it as much as I did.
