Sushi a la Hattori – Taos, New Mexico
This Japanese/Asian food is truly authentic, with the fish flown in fresh from Japan. The décor of the restaurant is simple; the view of the mountain.

Stopped here a few days ago. Was going to have the Thursday sesame chicken special, while my server suggested the seafood tempura bento. This one I had not tried. Decided to go for it. Was not disappointed. What a work of art. Everything was arranged perfectly. The salad fresh, the rice perfectly cooked, the California rolls a true delight. As for the star of the show, magnificent! The various fish, oyster, and calamari exquisitely dine. The tempura batter was light and crispy. I’ve never been disappointed when eating here. The servers are warm and welcoming, and the food always a 5 star.

Great food, good service… Great views

I don’t know what happened to this place since our last visit… Service from a long time server at this establishment was rude and dismissive. The server delivered our table’s tempura appetizer to another table 15 minutes after we ordered, the replacement appetizer still has not arrived 30 minutes after we initially ordered. Well we are at 45 minutes and still no appetizer… Well 50 minutes later and they are out of vegetables for our appetizer… Oh wait… 57 minutes in… Entrees arrived and the appetizer… The food was good… The service was terrible with the exception of a new server who had been on the job for two days. Hopefully the new server’s example will lead to the owners unburdening themselves of deadwood.

Holy moley. Our older neighbor wanted to go as he loves sushi and so do we. Some reviews dissed the wait staff but they were on spot tonight. Attentive service, sat in front of the chef at the sushi bar and everything was spot on. Crab roll, Mexican roll, aji dagi, eel. All was delicious and we were treated so well! Will go again

Amazing Sushi and so very fresh. They use real crab meat in their California rolls, Dragon rolls, and other sushi rolls having crab meat. Their calamari appetizers are thick delicious and very tender lightly breaded – simply spectacular. Their sushi chef is Japanese and came here from California. He really knows his stuff. He takes a little time making them but his attention to detail and perfection makes the sushi well worth the wait. Plus we were there on a Friday night and the place was packed so he was very busy. If you love Sushi and can’t make it to Japan for genuine sushi, then then this is the next best place.

the food is great! the employees work hard! but the place appears so badly run that it makes the ownership look incompetant or immoral. get there the minute they open or forget about it. outside seating has become badly crammed. drop the special altogether. get your act together. hattori is still one of the very few places worth spending money on to eat out in taos, but the future does not appear bright.

We’ve eaten here 3 times and this would’ve been our 4th time. The food is good. The service is horrible. There’s a Mexican girl that’s the only waitress and she has a major attitude. We ended up walking out because she was so rude. We will NEVER be back. She wouldn’t wait on us first of all finally after 20 minutes she took our order and brought us our soup. A family came in and she told us we had to move to the corner with our food and drinks because there were people that needed our table. There was 4 tables open.. Who does that? Just RIDICULOUS! We honestly thought she was joking. If she would’ve asked us nicely I wouldn’t have minded at all. It was the way she was talking to us. I paid for our soup and we left. Everyone we talk to always says the food is good it’s the service that sucks. People are always complaining about her.

Waited 20 minutes before someone got out drink order but said they couldn’t put in the food order yet. Finally got our order in and the said 40 minutes. 40 minutes later they said 20/30 minutes. We left for our movie hungry.

5 Stars for food, was excellent!! Some of the best freshest sushi we’ve had. Tempura amazing, squid salad great! Could use another server and few more tables.

We visited this establishment about 15 minutes after it opened for dinner on a Wednesday. We waited about 10 minutes after we were seated for a server. When we first got there, there was only one server worker. She was joined by another server later, but a full restaurant, indoors and out, still only had a max of two servers. Service was slow and inattentive. We waited almost an hour for our order, and we’re never offered refills on beverages. We had to ask for our check after waiting with empty plates at our table for well over 10 minutes.
The food was acceptable. The tempura was excellent, but the sushi – in my opinion – could have been more fresh and was served luke-warm.

Awesome sushi. Get there early (6pm or earlier) during busy season to avoid the wait. Great views at sunset as well
