This is hands down the best sushi restaurant in the Northern Valley area.
We ordered the sushi platter, and every single piece was incredibly fresh and flavorful.

The selection included salmon, sea bream, yellowtail, clam, tuna, mushroom truffle, spicy tuna, and Okinami futomaki.
Everything was well-balanced and beautifully prepared.
Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for high-quality sushi.

Simply great!
Not your regular local Fumasaki, this one is legit.

Fresh fish, tasty food and reasonable prices compared to city’s.

You will not regret.

Quite possibly the best sushi I’ve had in New Jersey, and as good or better than spots in the city that are more expensive. Even the miso soup and salad tasted elevated.

This place is truly a gem. Laid back, casual cool vibe with the most attention to detail in quality and presentation. The owner Tim along with his staff are amazing. Everything you try will be Amazing. Great value for amazing quality. This place is a must try! Go for lunch and try their lunch sets! Their appetizers are also great!! The octopus and calamari is something you’ve probably never had before ~soooo good!! They even make their own soy sauce that should tell you how serious they are!!

By far the best sushi in Bergen.
It goes down like butter.
Tears come down with every bite because it’s so good
Chef Tim mastered his technique at Nobu and Sushi Noz.
It’s a bargain at the current price.

Might be the best sushi and omakese place in North Jersey, in terms of value. Chefs are fantastic and if I recall the head chef worked at morimoto in Manhattan and it shows. Great for a date, with friends and even by yourself (take a seat at the sushi bar and watch the pros work).

Aug 8th update – nothing’s changed . Best sashimi spot I’ve ever been to for the $$.

Our new favorite spot! Fresh ingredients, relaxed ambiance, and friendly staff! They do not take reservations so come early. Price on the high side, but you get what you pay for. Ordered salmon tataki for apps, sushi and sashimi set, and a couple of specialty (thin) rolls – all excellent dishes!

My favorite Japanese restaurant in town! The Uniwangyu roll is a must try—it’s my absolute favorite. You won’t regret coming here. The staff is fantastic, and the service is top-notch. I’ll definitely be back!

I was shocked to learn of this new sushi restaurant in Bergen County just minutes from home.

Ive eaten at some of the best NYC sushi establishments (Noz, Ginza, Masa, etc) and to have this quality of sushi in Norwood NJ which as a town is not a dining hub, not at a major crossroads, and aside from driving 30 mins to Fort Lee has no peers in terms of quality of sushi —- it’s as much bewildering as it is a dream come true.

The quality and treatment of the fish (both the omakase as well as larger platter), rice, house made soy sauce and accompanying rolls are all superb and for a price that feels like half of what we were used to paying for a comparable offering in NYC. The packaging is beautiful and sustainable as well. This place is nothing like the typical neighborhood places in the area. It is traditionally styled sushi where the product shines and is not buried in sauces or cream cheese or “crunchy”.

Although we have some great Italian and Korean restaurants in the near vicinity, there is somewhat of a void of high quality options of other varieties nearby. I hope this new restaurant serves as a case study for what this area is calling out for. Best of luck to Okinami – I hope you are embraced by the community.

Sushi is outstanding quality. It maybe a few dollars more than some other places, but it’s well worth it because of the value you get for the money. The rolls are clearly made with quality ingredients, and doesn’t skimp on the fish. It’s one of the few places you can get a Spicy Scallop Roll for lunch, which is a favorite. The attention to detail with takeout orders (i.e. spill-proofing, quality chopsticks, etc.) is better than almost any other place I’ve been too, not just sushi places. The only critique I would offer is they don’t have an option for brown rice, but that is far from a deal breaker for me. Overall, highly recommend.
