I’m very picky about where I get my teriyaki.
My sister had brought me a bowl to try out.
I got the small bowl. Just the teriyaki chicken and rice. They give you a lot of chicken and big pieces too. They also have extra teriyaki sauce and hot sauce. Ohh and they have free fountain drinks between 2-4 pm. My order was to go. Love this spot.
Today we ordered a chicken combo and a katsu plate. Katsu was crispy but mostly breading. The katsu sauce is tasty.
The BBQ chicken was also thin and a smaller portion than normal. The bbq chicken was dry as if it had been cooked a while ago and sitting there. I brought a friend that hadn’t tried and neither of us were really satisfied with the meal.
Cashiers are usually friendly and helpful.
They also have sushi rolls available that are just fine, and come with miso soup. Soda machine for free refills.
You must try their Lava sauce and/or Volcano sauce. Now the names are confusing, because what is Volcano sauce but Lava? But anyway, their Lava sauce is like a sweet and sour but spicy sauce, while the Volcano sauce is a thicker, spicier number, so good!
Extra star because the customers were friendly too. We had a lovely conversation with other diners.
After many years enjoying their food and service, it’s sad to leave a negative update based on multiple past visits. After waiting patiently for over half an hour with other customers, the food was subpar and they should be embarrassed to serve. The cooks usually prepared good Hawaiian food (except for the rice, and especially for their Japanese plates) but sadly not my favorites and not last night.
I’ve never had decent fluffy white rice here. Either get a better rice cooker and or timer or maybe change the brand of rice.
The usually tender bbq pork must have been switched out for bbq beef (I don’t eat beef) as the meat texture was firm and different and it was burnt and dried like eating bbq beef jerky. The bed of veggies are usually par boiled and softer but it was mostly raw and that left the cabbage leaves bitter.
The cashier never repeated my order which was his mistake as I specifically told him “all mac salad no rice”. It was prepared as 2 scoops of rice, no mac salad. My mistake for not opening the cover to check for accuracy. The mini bbq plate was not worth $13.99.
The order of saimin was another disappointment. The noodles were not properly stirred so there were two large clumps of noodles stuck together, edible but not enjoyable and not worth $12.49. The photo shows a handful of small thinly sliced fried Spam, missing bbq pork and 2 thinly sliced kamaboko fish cake hidden underneath.
Five stars for streaming Hawaiian music.
I wish them well, improved food and service and good luck in 2026. I’ll visit the other location on Harbor and Orangethorpe instead for more consistent, friendly service and food quality.

Great Hawaiian barbecue meat plates, mac salad and pork lau lau in a clean and spacious environment. Food is generously portioned. Many Hawaiian can fruit drinks are available.
This location in Brea also serves many Japanese entrees with meats, chicken and grilled salmon, bento combinations and special rolls with raw fish. I’ve ordered many of their Japanese items in the past and am often disappointed when ordering their specials, having had more misses than hits.
The rice they serve is a different variety and/or they are cooking it incorrectly. It’s often more on the dry side, harder and doesn’t stick together making it harder to eat with chopsticks. The miso soup served in a foam takeout bowl is usually lukewarm after a 5 minute drive home.
The most recent combo orders of bbq chicken bento and bbq pork bento was the most disappointing. Rice wasn’t up to par again, California rolls tasted way, way off like spoiled unknown ingredients. Mixed shrimp and vegetable tempura was cold, chewy and thick with batter. The meats were good as always.
On a positive note, their counter help is always helpful, patient and pleasant.
Angie was nice to see after a long day at work today as her smile was very welcoming. Eddie is always nice to talk to as well. Thank you!!
Try their Moco Loco…
5 Stars!
