Wanted some dim sum after watching a movie in Hayward. Didn’t want to drive too far or wait in a huge line. Decided to try Tin’s Teapot Bistro. Was located on Jackson Street in Hayward. Was nice that they have their own parking lot. Walked into the restaurant and noticed immediately the nice big windows and paintings. The windows made the place look very bright and big. They have 2 rooms to dine in. The food was good. The Xiao Long Bao had pork and shrimp in it and quite a bit of soup in it. The sparerib in black bean sauce was very tasty. Unlike other, they do not use taro on the bottom, but pumpkin. The pumpkin tasted good. Their prices are a bit pricier than other Chinese places. However, I would definitely go back here again.

This restaurant cuts corners. I bought two servings of egg white and scallop fried rice today. Neither serving contained scallops, only egg whites. So dishonest! Each serving cost over ten yuan. I ripped off so badly. I suggest everyone avoid eating there. This is a true story.

The owner’s attitude was terrible. My experience was that around 11:00 AM that day, I met three friends there for dim sum. There were only three tables of customers, which wasn’t satisfactory. When his waiter invited me to sit down, he didn’t immediately ask what I wanted to drink and just walked away. The owner clearly saw me but didn’t greet me. The owner’s wife was the same; she only greeted four or five Mexican customers when they came in, treating me like I was invisible. I sat there for about six minutes before I raised my hand to signal the waitress to come and greet me. I said I had been sitting there for six minutes and no one had served me tea, treating me like I was invisible. I said you should serve me tea first before doing anything else. She said she was sorry and went to make tea, but I saw the owner tell her not to apologize and not to greet her. At that time… I ignored it and just waited for my friends to arrive. Soon after, my three friends arrived, and the owner came over and asked how many people were there. My friend said some people were already there. He then asked if it was that troublemaker, the old man. After my friend sat down, he asked if I had spoken to the owner yet. I said no, and he told me the owner had spoken to him like that. I immediately felt the owner shouldn’t have spoken to my friends like that. My friends also thought it was inappropriate, so all 21 of us confronted the owner. He said he had the right not to bother us, and we said we didn’t need him to bother us, and we left immediately. We said we wouldn’t help him here anymore. Some friends told us not to help him. They said that in the service industry, you have to treat people well; how can you get business with that attitude? Let’s see when he closes down.

The dishes were excellent! The winter melon soup, in particular, was superb.
