The food is delicious and always amazes me how fast they come out with it. I normally get the poke while my partner indulges in the ramen side of things. The food comes out hot and quick for the appropriate food. In my case, the poke comes out fresh and ready to consume. Normally that’s a red flag but always tasted good and made thoroughly. This most recent time my partner got the JMT and the cook notified the girls that he forgot a piece of ingredient for it. They fixed it and it honestly did not deter the service or the experience.
The staff’s chill and friendly attitude helps with the atmosphere of the restaurant. You come in, take a gander at the menu, order at the register. Easy. The girls are not pushy, friendly, and patient. It’s self seating after order and they will give you a number for your order so they can find you. The restaurant has a very Japanese-inspired theme with good use of the wood furniture and very calm moody lighting. Dinner has a great chill vibe while you enjoy your meal. The Tacoma locations has a very anime theme going on (mainly Naruto) but the Bremerton location is more to my aesthetics that gives off a lo-fi feel to it.
Overall, I’ll continue to dine here as my partner lives in Port Orchard and I’m in Oak Harbor. My partner loves coming here and we’ll continue to come here for our once to twice a month weekend dates.
My only negative is that there isn’t a location in Oak Harbor
I ordered the chicken katsu dupbap with added bean sprouts and deep fried tofu with a recommendation for a greak sake bottle to go with it. And wow, the portion sizes were beyond generous. I ate for a solid 30 minutes and still had enough left over to take home a full to-go bowl. The flavor and quality were outstanding, and the pricing was excellent for what you get.
Since coming back from my trip to Japan, I’ve been looking for a place that could live up to the quality and service I experienced there. Zen Sushi not only matched it but surpassed my expectations. Truly the best dining experience I’ve had since returning: both in terms of food and service. I’ll absolutely be back, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an exceptional meal and warm hospitality! I’m just lucky it’s so close to my house so that I can make this a regular spot. Definitely a tucked away gem!
The noodles are the biggest disappointment. They’ve switched to a new type that’s greasy, overly thin, and honestly disgusting. They soak up the oil instead of the broth, making the whole bowl feel heavy and unpleasant without any of the flavor to back it up.
I brought this up to the wait staff and they asked the kitchen. Apparently, they are leaning towards “higher quality ingredients” so that means they changed almost all of their flavors, but this is seriously disappointing. I used to rave about them but now I left after eating just the eggs and meat in my ramen and left the rest untouched.
Overall, the quality has gone completely downhill. What used to be a reliable favorite is now barely edible. Sadly, they’ve lost a customer. I won’t be coming back unless they go back to their old recipes and standards.
Space is limited so just beware during peak times you may need to wait.
