Shug’s Soul Food is an absolute gem in Atlantic City. The portions are incredibly generous, the prices are great, and every dish is full of rich, homemade flavor. It’s tucked away on a college campus, so you might not find it unless you know where to look but it’s 100% worth the trip. If you love authentic soul food with real heart behind it, this is the spot. Highly recommend!!

It’s in a college. Walk in. It’s on the right of the lobby floor. Can’t miss it. The lady was very nice. I wanted to try something new and this is the best soul food around. I order chicken wings, yams, rice with gravy and Mac n cheese. Chicken wings were the BEST!!!! Yams were canned. Too sweet. Didn’t taste natural. It was okay. The rice with gravy. No taste or flavor at all. Lastly, Mac &cheese were ok. To me too dry. Overall 3 stars for the food. Service 4 stars. Thank you! Shug!

Food was ok if you don’t know soul food. I specifically asked for lightly fried fish during ordering process which resulted in hard fried food that wouldn’t allow anyone to enjoy the fish. The sweet potatoes are more than likely canned as the sugar content was so high they couldn’t be enjoyed. The mac and cheese was too soft however some like it super soft. The food portions are generous which was the highlight which would be a plus if you enjoyed the food. Food is fair not 4.6 quality. Everyone has good and bad days and maybe this was the situation when my wife and I visited.

My family and I visited Shug’s for the first time, we were there for the Queens concert. I have to say the food was cooked to order so it took awhile for them to prepare it; but was worth the wait. The chicken, macaroni and cheese and the collard greens was awesome, everyone’s order was great!! I would recommend this establishment to anyone interested in some down home soap food.

This will forever be the spot I visit when I come to jersey. We visited from Knoxville TN. The taste and quality of Shug’s food took me straight back in time to my granny’s house. I even teared up a little. And I think, maybe that’s why it’s called “soul food”! It hits the part of your soul that held the memories of coming together as a family for supper. The moment you walk in the door you just know all your hunger and problems are going to fade. This business and the food itself makes the prayer hit different, the soul dance in remembrance, and the day so much better! Stop by shug’s you will NOT regret it!
