I just dined here the other night and thought it was on point. I read some of the reviews noting poor service but they must have made some changes because they were great. I can’t remember the waitress name but she was very attentive and even the bar tender came around to ask how things were. Had Pat’s Punch which was amazing, well balanced not too sweet not too tart just right. The only reason I had to deduct a point for door was that the prosciutto seemed a little old or off. The burrata and pesto was good. Tuna poke was the star of the night though, could have licked that plate if I wasn’t in public.

It deserves the 3 or 4 stars. Service was slow as expected and food was cold. Servers were attentive but the food is batched and rolled over from another location so ours sat for 10 minutes while other food was handed out. The scallops were $36 for only 5 and they arrived cold and tasted like cooked from frozen. The pretzel was the start. Bread on BLT was soggy and tots were underwhelming. Beautiful setting and comfortable seating. If you arrive at the right time it may be great!

The Captain bar proved to be a genuinely enjoyable spot for a laid-back afternoon. The atmosphere exuded relaxation and casual charm, creating a perfect setting to unwind. My choice of cocktail, The Sailor, was a delightful surprise. Its impeccable balance of rum and pineapple/lime juice made it a true standout, satisfying my taste buds with each sip.

Our culinary adventure took a delicious turn with the Buffalo Wings and Beer Cheese Fondue. Both dishes were not only delicious but also served with a comforting warmth that added to the overall experience. The Buffalo Wings delivered a flavorful kick, while the Beer Cheese Fondue was a creamy delight that paired exceptionally well with the accompanying bites.

Adding to the positive experience was our bartender, Tom Smith. His friendly demeanor and attentive service elevated our visit. Tom checked on us multiple times, ensuring that we felt well taken care of throughout the lunch.

The Captain bar offered a relaxed ambiance, standout cocktails, and delicious bites that exceeded expectations. The warmth in both the atmosphere and service, highlighted by the friendly bartender, Tom, made this a memorable experience that I would gladly repeat.

Spent a lovely couple of hours by the fire celebrating a friend’s birthday. We enjoyed several menu items and the cozy atmosphere. I had a manhattan, the filet bahn mi lettuce wraps and papas fritas, plus I tried my friend’s jumbo shrimp cocktail. Everything tasted really delicious. The shrimp were the biggest shrimp I’ve ever seen in my life. May want to consider changing the name of the dish to ginormous shrimp cocktail. Lol There did seem to be a little bit of a shortage to the staff, but the staff available were very courteous and as attentive as possible to the steady crowd.

I don’t remember our bartenders name! But she was amazing and went above and beyond to make me a drink that I was happy with! I don’t drink much, and she put all of the things together that made a perfect drink for me! The atmosphere was so relaxing and my husband and I enjoyed our date night!

The food and atmosphere is the only thing saving this review. The service was absolutely terrible, the waitress hid behind the bar the whole time. We were told there were no kids options after being told earlier in the day that there were. They do not service to the outdoor seating. We were also rudely informed there was no option to send anything up to a room. Guests spent way too long waiting on the waitress.

Having previously visited Patterson Kitchen we decided to stop at the Captain for a late night drink/snack around 10 pm. They close at midnight. When we arrived the bar was full, so we sat near the fireplace and waited about twenty minutes before we were approached. The bartender gave us menus, but we had already had time to look online and figure out what we wanted so we told him we were ready to order. He said he would be back in just a second, went to another table who had arrived only minutes before and took their drink order and proceeded to spend ten minutes making their drinks. Not sure if he felt like we wouldn’t tip because we were young, but we ended up leaving after thirty minutes of waiting, with no order taken. Overall very poor unprofessional service and such a shame to see in such an upscale hotel.

The worst service experience of my entire life. The wait of more than one hour for food on a Sunday evening was made worse by the staff’s indifference to the guests. I can’t think of a single thing that could redeem such terrible service. Others have commented on the same poor service, so perhaps we should have known better but the consistent complaints means management has known about the issue and simply chooses not to address it. Avoid this place, the average food and atmosphere isn’t worth the poor service. Thank me later for warning you in advance.

I recently enjoyed two experiences at The Captain while staying at Hotel Hartness – once for cocktails and a brief client meeting and the other for lunch at the bar.

Both were exceptional experiences. The staff was so friendly and attentive. (We LOVED Jason!) I had one of the fun cocktails from the menu – a blueberry limoncello martini – and it was delicious and refreshing! At lunch, I had the veggie wrap with whipped feta and the house chips and I wish I could replicate that wrap at home. The vegetables were perfectly grilled and the whipped feta was the perfect pairing. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the chips too!

The bar itself has a very interesting story which is carried throughout the menus that look like flight logs down to the decor. It was all very well thought out and beautifully decorated. I can’t wait to return!

This is not a food review, but I wanted to leave a review of the place in general so the management knows they need to do better. We live in the area and thought it would be fun to check out the bar for lunch/apps. We sat at the bar for 15 minutes and nobody ever came. That’s a long time to sit. There were 3 other customers eating, so we knew someone had to be close by. Two staff members even walked right past us sitting around & spoke to another gentlemen eating at the bar, so they should have alerted someone that new customers were waiting. We waited, thinking someone would come after a while. No such luck. I don’t think this will ever be a bustling hotel, so it would be nice to have this as a local dining option, but there is no way I would waste my time here when there are so many other options in Greenville.
