So fresh, large portions, fast service!
I mean, look how fresh the tuna is, it practically speaks for itself.
While I was there, a gentleman was upset about the price of two bowls and a drink totaling $46 for four people. but honestly, for the portion size and the freshness of the fish, the pricing is very reasonable and fair. High-quality seafood isn’t cheap, and this place delivers on quality.
On top of everything, the owner was extremely sweet and welcoming, which made the experience even better. I’ll definitely be coming back and recommending this spot to others!
It’s even more impressive knowing it’s often just one woman running the entire restaurant and still providing amazing service and consistently perfect food. That kind of hard work deserves real respect and support.
The price is always worth it — you’re paying for top-quality ingredients and an incredible experience every time. And yes, you should absolutely tip. If you can afford to eat out, you can afford to tip. It’s common decency, especially when someone is working this hard to give great food and service.
A true gem and an absolute must-try.
La Poke is hands down one of the best sushi poke spots around. The service is always amazing—friendly, fast, and genuinely welcoming every time you walk in. The food is absolutely delicious, with fresh ingredients and perfectly balanced flavors in every bowl.
What really sets La Poke apart is the portion size. The bowls are always overfilled—you can easily get two meals out of one. It’s rare to find a place that delivers this level of quality, value, and consistency all at once.
I also want to address something I read in another review regarding tipping. La Poke is a sit-down restaurant, not a fast-food place. The lady working there prepares the food fresh—nothing comes from a bag—and she also cleans the tables after guests leave. If you choose to dine in, it’s completely reasonable to tip for the service provided. This isn’t McDonald’s; it’s real, freshly made food with real service, and that deserves appreciation.
I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves sushi bowls.
Edit:
Hate to admit it. But the food is amazing! Owner is one of the rudest people I’ve ever met. The policies also make absolutely 0 sense. But the portion sizes are big and poke is good Advice to owners , it doesn’t cost anything to be kind. Also if your going to enforce these policies, atleast be transparent about it….
Anyway, the employee seemed irritated with us and would only say 2 or 3 scoops. I asked if there was something for an 8-year-old to eat besides a poke bowl. As he won’t eat sushi, I was told two or three scoops. Just rude! She said this several times, even when asked about something else.
When paying, the total came to almost $46 for two bowls and four bottles of water. I was surprised, so between the employee’s attitude and what I believe to be a higher-than-average cost. I did not tip. Tipping is earned; if you’re having a rough day, you should not lash out at customers. I normally tip, but it is not a requirement. Especially if you are hostile towards someone you’ve never met!
So when we went to sit down and were told, ‘No tip, you’re not eating here.’ I asked if she was kicking us out, and she stated she was trying to make a living and seating was for tipping customers. So we left without making a scene.
A lady and her daughter followed us out as we were leaving. She asked what occurred, and I explained. She said she did not tip either, because she had the same experience with the lady’s attitude, but she was not told she could not eat inside. It seems this woman hates her job or something and likes taking it out on others.
At the end of the day, I will never eat there again and have already told friends and family to avoid this place. There are too many other restaurants that treat people well. And as the saying goes, you vote with your dollar.
To the owner, please do not bother responding, as this behavior cannot be justified.
Edit: Thank you for proving my point. First, there were four of us. Two of whom speak little English, as they are from Japan and were here visiting. So your accent was not an issue. You made a great impression on them, by the way. Never been kicked out of a place before.
Secondly, you said I raised my voice to speak over others. My family and I were the only people there, except for the lady with her daughter, who were eating. So who was I speaking over?
Third point, I must have misunderstood you when you said we were not eating there for not tipping. Not too much there to misinterpret.
Lastly, we drove from Amite, taking an 8 and 10-year-old to Urban Air. Who is reading reviews for lunch to “twist the narrative?” What would be the point? Maybe it’s time for some self-reflection. I have read the reviews you mentioned, and it seems this wasn’t the first time you’ve had an attitude towards customers. Your response to my review just shows you to be a deceitful person, as well as rude.
