The sushi itself is spectacular — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The roll sizes are generous, and the quality rivals what you’d expect at much pricier restaurants. The California Roll is a standout: simple, classic, but elevated with really good rice and fresh ingredients. Their Southsider Roll is another favorite — the way they balance savory, sweet, crunchy, and spice is just magical.
Beyond the sushi rolls, the menu has a nice variety: from ramen to chicken katsu, they’ve got options that will satisfy sushi lovers and Japanese food fans alike. Portions are big, and the prices are incredibly reasonable — you’ll feel like you’re getting a premium experience without paying premium prices. Several reviews say you can get a 12-piece roll for under $10.
Service is equally impressive. Orders are made fresh, and even during busy times, the staff stays friendly and efficient. There’s also a cozy dine-in space, though many folks pick up — but honestly, the food is so good it’s worth sticking around if you can.
The owners clearly know what they’re doing. According to one long-time review, the owner has been running this place for decades. That kind of consistency really shows in the quality and care put into every dish.
In short: if you’re craving sushi that feels both authentic and down-to-earth, Sushi & Sub is a must-visit. Exceptional food, great value, and a welcoming atmosphere — this place deserves every one of its high ratings. I’ll absolutely be back soon.
I ordered a rainbow roll and a shrimp tempura with the avocado replaced by cheese.
– All that Jazz.
The sushi was so good and owner has been at this location for 21 years and it shows, because she really knows what she is doing. While the sign says Sushi snd Subs, it is only
First a few particulars to get out of the way, this is a mostly take out only restaurant. There is a meager dining room, but nothing that would impress a date or business associate..also, parking is plentiful, most of it near the interest. Get lost? Next to the UPS Store.
But you want to know about the food:
Soy Sauce – Kikkoman dark, in little packets to take with you.
California Roll – fresh, refreshing and more flavorful than what I am used to. This was so good and I have to admit, I normally am not a fan of the cali toll.
Southsider – oh my, Dorothy we are not in Kansas any more. I don’t think I have had anything quite like this on the east coast. It was such a great mix of savory, crunch, spice and sweet. It was phenomenal.
So the owner told me she was from Burma, which may explain why she had such a unique take on the sushi rolls. My goal was to eat half of each roll, and save half for dinner or lunch the next day. I failed. Once I took one bite of that Southside, I couldn’t stop till it was gone, then I licked my plate clean
Not my proudest moment, but I gotta admit the lunch was good.
Great sushi and awesome prices. So I will keep coming back. It’s been a few years since I 1st found this hidden gem.
