We dined in at Fatty Mart and ordered the chili wontons. We ate most of them and did notice they were a bit squishy tasting but since we were eating in one bite we didn’t look at the filling. We took one wonton home with our other leftovers. Today when we reheated the wonton, we noticed that the pork inside was raw.

The other food that we ordered was better, but the raw pork turned me off :/

FattyMart is an interesting concept, a mashup of Eataly-style market meets Taiwanese food court, with a sprinkle of general Asian grocery items. The vibe is young and energetic, with a few tables outside the market and casual seating scattered throughout the space.

We ordered the Fatty Folds with three-cup chicken, wagyu beef pho banh mi, and beef bulgogi bowl with a fatty add-on. The Fatty Folds were an interesting twist on the Taiwanese scallion pancake, used as taco-style to wrap your choice of protein. While the concept was fun, the pancake itself was overly greasy and lacked scallion flavor. It’s a pass.

The wagyu banh mi was good overall, though a bit dry on its own. Thankfully, the pho beef dip was excellent and really made the dish better.

The bulgogi bowl came with only six tiny slices of beef on a full bowl of rice. Without the fatty add-on ($4), it would’ve been disappointing. Big thanks to the waitress who strongly recommended upgrading.

Service was quick, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I’d give the food 3.5 out of 5 stars, and the staff and setting 4 out of 5. Overall, it’s a 4-star place, worth checking out for the concept for once.

This is a great place to get Taiwanese snacks, drinks and food. I had their Fatty Folds and it was delicious! They always have new stuff so you’re never bored. Service is great, servers are very nice. It is nice atmosphere. Plenty of space to eat indoor and outdoor. Parking might be a challenge. Other than that, everything is great!

Updating Review: NEW MENU ITEMS ARE SO GOOD!!!

Super cute and vibey market, has all the special ingredients and popular items you would find in Asian markets. The to-go food and hot plates are one of a kind and delicious. Hip new local spot for people who live in Mar Vista. Parking is so/so some days it’s easy some days it’s hard.

This place is really cool and a fun place to check out for Taiwanese goodies. They have a casual food bar as well that serves all three meals. They have happy hour on weekdays from 4-7pm where you can get a crispy chicken sandwich or burger with fries for $10. They have pizza by the slice ( whole ones available too) in addition to an ice cream bar. In the evenings, they also have deals on certain premade food options. There’s some casual seating that is heated outside of the grocery store that has self-service water. Dogs were allowed. The crispy chicken sandwich is so yummy and the seasoning used is on point. The mushroom pizza we got was good, but the sandwich was definitely the star.

This is by far the best Bahn Mi I’ve ever had. The bread was so fluffy and crispy, everything was fresh and crisp. Cucumber salad was excellent. I was having a bad day before I ate this and now I feel so much better

Arrived on Thursday night at just before 7:30 PM. Asked some questions about the menu and ordered the BBQ pork bowl and Beef Bulgogi bowl. Both we served to us parts of meat were warm other parts less than room temperature. Rice at or near room temperature. Luck would have it they have a microwave for customer use. Honestly the bowls were just ok at best.

A person sat down next to us after ordering and their food came out and they were told the restaurant was about to close and they would need to leave. We found this odd given it wasn’t even 8pm which we later learned is when they close. One by one tables were being told that they needed to leave. Then came out turn, young man who took our order came and said we needed to leave even though we were still eating and had beers half full. He told us he would give us paper cups for our beers. I’m very sure this restaurant doesn’t have a license to sell draft beer to go as that doesn’t exist in Los Angeles. We finished our beers in less than 5 minutes from when told to leave and during that time staff stacked all the tables and chairs around us.

Very odd experience to say the least. We really wanted this to be good, but it wasn’t. We eat out in the area often and will choose other places.

What I appreciate most about Fatty Mart is their genuine commitment to the community. Mar Vista truly benefited from the addition of a restaurant, market, and event space like Fatty Mart. The food is consistently excellent, and every aspect of the experience—from the thoughtful design to the exceptional customer service—reflects their dedication to serving and supporting the local area.

Banh Mi was decent, but the bulgogi was pretty bad. Super salty, drenched in dark sou sauce. Jas. In rive had some sort of floral note that was definitely not for me. Pass.
