At Kibo, we believe the term hope can answer all life’s problems. From what to eat to where to eat at, Hope is your answer. Derived our name from the Japanese interpretation of Hope (希望 kibō), Kibo Sushi House was born simply because we believe greatly in hope. Hope – in the sense that if you work hard, you will always be rewarded one way or another. As we embed this belief into our restaurant, from selecting fresh, local ingredients; to cooking them with love and serving them to your table with our bright smiles; we hope that you enjoy and appreciate all that we put into your favorite dishes.

The food is good again! We noticed the shop photos were showing the sashimi combo had the original fish options that were previously there so we ordered again. It is as good as we first remembered! Hope consistency keeps up and remains at the high quality. Happy to update this review back to five stars!
August 2024 Update: unfortunately Kibo is not the same anymore. We’ve had several orders where everything was lesser quality than what we ordered before (we always order the same combos). The sashimi are tiny and no longer have the special cuts, the avocado had tons of black spots, the aburi looks nothing like before with the same toppings. We won’t be ordering exclusively from here anymore.
Maybe if you didn’t have their previous quality to compare, they are still a decent sushi place. But for the price we will be going elsewhere.
Original review:
The sushi, aburi, and sashimi here are amazing. I’ve been looking for good aburi in Halifax since moving here from Vancouver and this did not disappoint. No contest, this will be our go-to sushi place from now on.
This is mainly a take out place but we were able to eat at a small counter (2 people) since it was a rainy night. There’s also a small market and ready-made food and drinks. The gentleman taking our order was also super nice and helpful 🙂
*update: had to drop a star because they changed their sashimi platter and it no longer is what I have pictured in my review. The sashimi has been downgraded to basic slices unlike what we have pictured here without any special toppings like they previously did. They don’t appear to have the option for what we used to order anymore. So disappointed.
Please open a Kibo restaurant in Bedford!!
So far – the best sushi I had in Halifax.
Starting from packaging ending with taste pallet and flavours combination.
Certainly the best spicy salmon roll I ever had. Never liked the crunch inside of spicy rolls. Kibo has different approach – crunches are sprinkled on top. Amazing solution for me.
Everything I ordered was the best quality, fresh and delicious.
Will certainly order again and dine in to try out more options from the menu.
I got a box of salmon sashimi and nigiri. Very fresh. I’m really excited to try there onigiri rice balls! Kibo reminds me of the grab and go Japanese restaurants in New York, which I have been missing since moving to Halifax.
I’ll be back to Kibo many times
The lady at the counter was also quite unfriendly at the get-go, which I was not sure about why. The shop was small and messy (due to all the boxes and things clustered together).
I was quite surprised by how many sushi restaurants in Halifax are unable to serve quality sushi, after I tried a couple more around in town and/checked their menu. But then I guess that makes sense due to how the fish types used for sushi (salmon, tuna, etc) are simply not from the Atlantic Ocean, and Halifax is probably one of the furthest cities from where they came from in Canada (the Pacific).
