At Kibo, we believe the term hope can answer all life’s problems. From what to eat to where to eat at, Hope is your answer. Derived our name from the Japanese interpretation of Hope (希望 kibō), Kibo Sushi House was born simply because we believe greatly in hope. Hope – in the sense that if you work hard, you will always be rewarded one way or another. As we embed this belief into our restaurant, from selecting fresh, local ingredients; to cooking them with love and serving them to your table with our bright smiles; we hope that you enjoy and appreciate all that we put into your favorite dishes.

Absolutely delicious! Every piece of sushi was amazing, and the price is very reasonable. I’ll definitely recommend this place to everyone!

I’ve only had positive experience with Kibo!! Really good sushi, and supreme miso soup my sister also loves their spicy tuna bibimbap. I just wish their sushi&maki were properly folded as some of them were falling apart.

The food quality is excellent and the packaging is great. However, some types of sushi were not rolled properly and tended to fall apart, and the waiting time for the sushi to be prepared was longer than in other places.

June 2025 update:
The food is good again! We noticed the shop photos were showing the sashimi combo had the original fish options that were previously there so we ordered again. It is as good as we first remembered! Hope consistency keeps up and remains at the high quality. Happy to update this review back to five stars!

August 2024 Update: unfortunately Kibo is not the same anymore. We’ve had several orders where everything was lesser quality than what we ordered before (we always order the same combos). The sashimi are tiny and no longer have the special cuts, the avocado had tons of black spots, the aburi looks nothing like before with the same toppings. We won’t be ordering exclusively from here anymore.

Maybe if you didn’t have their previous quality to compare, they are still a decent sushi place. But for the price we will be going elsewhere.

Original review:
The sushi, aburi, and sashimi here are amazing. I’ve been looking for good aburi in Halifax since moving here from Vancouver and this did not disappoint. No contest, this will be our go-to sushi place from now on.

This is mainly a take out place but we were able to eat at a small counter (2 people) since it was a rainy night. There’s also a small market and ready-made food and drinks. The gentleman taking our order was also super nice and helpful 🙂

*update: had to drop a star because they changed their sashimi platter and it no longer is what I have pictured in my review. The sashimi has been downgraded to basic slices unlike what we have pictured here without any special toppings like they previously did. They don’t appear to have the option for what we used to order anymore. So disappointed.

Please open a Kibo restaurant in Bedford!!

Kibo was my go-to sushi spot in Toronto. Happy that they have a location in Halifax as well best one, super fresh, and tasty.

I really wanted to love this place but the Chirashi bowl was not great. It looked beautiful and the rice was cooked and seasoned perfectly, but the fish (other than the salmon) was chewy and did not seem fresh (?). I couldn’t even recognize some of the white fish based on texture alone.. The dons were a little pricy but they are a good-sized portion and can be shared. I’d probably recommend the salmon or cooked meats don, but not this one, sadly. Miso soup was delightful though!

I was very curious about this place. January 29th I got delivery and was absolutely shocked!
So far – the best sushi I had in Halifax.
Starting from packaging ending with taste pallet and flavours combination.
Certainly the best spicy salmon roll I ever had. Never liked the crunch inside of spicy rolls. Kibo has different approach – crunches are sprinkled on top. Amazing solution for me.

Everything I ordered was the best quality, fresh and delicious.

Will certainly order again and dine in to try out more options from the menu.

Amazing grab and go sushi! Staff are very friendly.
I got a box of salmon sashimi and nigiri. Very fresh. I’m really excited to try there onigiri rice balls! Kibo reminds me of the grab and go Japanese restaurants in New York, which I have been missing since moving to Halifax.
I’ll be back to Kibo many times

Heard great things about this place. I think it’s fairly new to Halifax they just do takeout and delivery. I had the spicy tuna dragon rolls. The North Mackie and the spicy chicken Karasge. My wife & daughter had Croquettes, veggie green Maki, sunny dragon, lobster roll, vegetable Tempura. They have a huge menu really. Everything was fantastic. I will certainly be going back. Feel like sushi. This is definitely place you should check out.

While I generally do not have good experiences with Kibo Sushi’s other locations, this location in Halifax was so far the worst – worse than other GTA locations. I had a salmon set to go in the evening, and the fish was unfresh – it tasted extremely fishy. Upon closer look, the colour was also quite off after I purchased them. The sushi rice was also very tough. I felt quite uncomfortable right after eating them. Now, about two hours later, I still had a very unpleasant fishy taste in my mouth. That sushi experience was not only worse than other kibo sushi, but also worse than many grocery store sushi I’ve had.

The lady at the counter was also quite unfriendly at the get-go, which I was not sure about why. The shop was small and messy (due to all the boxes and things clustered together).

I was quite surprised by how many sushi restaurants in Halifax are unable to serve quality sushi, after I tried a couple more around in town and/checked their menu. But then I guess that makes sense due to how the fish types used for sushi (salmon, tuna, etc) are simply not from the Atlantic Ocean, and Halifax is probably one of the furthest cities from where they came from in Canada (the Pacific).
