Our dessert was their version of bread pudding which was lackluster and I would not order it again. But what was memorable was the service. They treated us like we were getting entrees and the whole nine yards which was very impressive. Kudos to the wait staff/servers for being so courteous and professional.
If you desire nice, romantic atmosphere this would be a wise choice. The setting is very relaxing and quiet, perfect to strike up a conversation and not have many distractions.
We arrived just after 630pm and were asked if we had a reservation. I responded yes and we were taken to a table. We were the only ones in the restaurant. The owner was acting as bartender and there was one waiter who was also the host. We did not have issues that other reviewers did with wait time, but I suspect that was because no one was there. We reviewed the menu and were ready to place our orders. We were never asked if we wanted any drinks. We placed our food orders and had to quickly add our drink orders in before our waiter ran off. The beer my husband ordered, they were out of, so he ordered a different one. He ordered the steak frites, steak cooked to medium rare. I ordered the scallops dish.
Our drinks arrived followed shortly after by our petite salads. Petite is definitely the right word. The salad was on a bread plate and the salad filled about 2/3 of the plate. Delicious, but very skimpy. Our entrees arrived not long after. My husband’s steak was overcooked. Close to a medium well instead of a medium rare. He lets our waiter know who says that they can recook it. He agrees and asks to keep the fries so he can eat something while waiting. The waiter tried to take my husband’s fries 2 or 3 times. He comes back to let us know that they don’t have any more rib eye steaks and that they can make a filet mignon instead. Meanwhile, my scallops were extremely undercooked, almost raw. They took my whole dish to remake it. The owner also came out to talk to my husband about his steak and said that he wanted it cooked medium well. My husband very clearly says “No, I asked for it be cooked medium rare.”. So I had a few of my husband’s fries while we were waiting. It was 730pm and we were both starving. I’ve been glancing at the clock because my husband and I have to get home to our daughter and let our babysitter go. Our new dishes come out about 745pm. Well, my husband’s new steak is once again overcooked. Medium well again. And my scallops are once again, undercooked and almost raw. My husband gets up and pulls the owner aside to tell him that our dishes are cooked the same as they were the first time. He didn’t seem too bothered by this. He offered to make us something new again. We said no, we need to go. We paid for our drinks and left, starving. As we were leaving, a couple came in for dinner. The entire time we were there we were by ourselves. I expected our dishes to be perfect.
My husband and I left upset and hungry. We stopped at Chick fil A on the way home to grab dinner. That was delicious, but not at all what we were expecting for our anniversary dinner. I would advise everyone to avoid Aviateur. They don’t care about their customers or the food that they are serving. It was one of the most disappointing dining experiences we have ever had.
