We were immediately welcomed by the sweetest hostess (I hate that I can’t remember her name—she had glasses, a beautiful smile, and the cutest dress). She greeted us with genuine warmth and hospitality that’s hard to come by these days. She led us into the main dining room and seated us at a charming table dressed in crisp white linens. The space featured more exposed brick, tasteful artwork, and just the right amount of décor. The temperature was perfect, and the tables were spaced far enough apart to create an intimate, relaxed atmosphere.
Our waiter arrived promptly and was both friendly and knowledgeable. He clearly knew his craft and took the time to walk us through the specials, making sure we felt confident and excited about our choices. We ordered sweet tea, which was perfectly brewed—not overly sweet, just right. The complimentary peanut butter and crackers were something new to us, but after reading about the history behind it, we appreciated the thoughtful touch even more.
Our food arrived quickly, and everything was fresh and cooked to order. We tried the spicy chicken sandwich, the cheeseburger, and a special featuring a panini with a cup of gumbo. Each entrée came with perfectly cooked homemade chips. Every bite was spot-on—truly a 10 out of 10.
Even though we were full, we couldn’t resist ordering dessert—when in Rome, right? We chose the peanut butter pie and the famous Black Bottom pie. After one bite of those generously sized slices, we all paused and just looked at each other. I don’t exaggerate when I say we unanimously agreed they were the best pies we’ve ever had. What started as a plan to sample a few bites and take the rest to go ended with two completely empty plates.
We consider ourselves food lovers, and I genuinely couldn’t find a single flaw in the entire experience. We live nearly three hours away and are already planning a trip back. If you’ve made it this far in my amateur review, thank you—and I truly hope you get the chance to experience this wonderful, history-filled gem for yourself.
Love the old building, they prove to be the oldest restaurant in Mississippi .
They start you with peanut butter and crackers, which is kind of fun and they say that it is a result from changes they had made during the depression back on the day . Pretty sure it’s Jiff peanut butter.so kinda fun but coats your pallet.
They also serve warm rolls and butter after this. I’m pretty sure the rolls are from frozen and they were OK but just kinda ended up a bit gummy.
I have a catfish Belvedere and while it was good, it definitely could’ve used enough sauce to cover the whole fish, my side was fried green tomatoes, and most of them are really good but one was like a half piece and mostly burnt . The sauce that went with the fried green tomatoes was supposed to be a comeback sauce, but it just tasted like 1000 mile into me, I ask for ranch and it was delicious..
My friend had the shrimp and grits, they were the most different that we’ve ever had. They were dry enough to maintain height, and the sausage was really weird and actually kind of gross. She really enjoyed the shrimp in the dish..
We share the peanut butter pie, and it was definitely the highlight of the meal.
Service in general is really great !
The men’s restroom could use some cosmetic improvements, though.
