We thought the host of the cafe was attentive and friendly alongside Francis – she’s a very warm, attentive, and loving lady who also recommended us to try their special Eggs Benedict.
The Waitress took our order for us starting with coffee, Eggs Benedict, and Omelette with Ham and Cheese. Each meal served with hash browns, and mine came with an English muffin too.
We waited probably around 10-12mins, the Eggs Benedict came a bit later but not that much different from a wait.
What we loved about their breakfast, both weren’t too overpowering with flavours. And that we can simply add condiments when we want to.
The only downside was the coffee no kick of strong, bold and good flavour and aroma from the coffee – we felt just drinking flavoured drink. Also the ambience which can be a bit noisy around, especially, we came during the peak hours.
We want to give compliments to the staff, the cooks, and the overall service. We’re very pleased with the food. And special mention to Francis, her enthusiasm and energetic presence added value to the Red Hut Cafe.
Happy to come back and recommend
Host is so fun when she calls out the waiting patrons. Once sat we were warmly greeted. Food came out quick. The biscuit and gravy is heavenly, the country fried steak was delicious, the pancakes were good just too much of a flour taste . Overall the food tastes really fresh. I would definitely come back if I’m in town.
I am definitely recommending this place to anyone who comes to South Lake Tahoe.
I ordered the house special the
Country Scram my kid had the strawberry banana pancakes and my wife had the waffle plate we were impressed. Try there food out you’ll love it .
I’ll say of the two locations we went to, this one was nice in that just beyond the windows you could see the lake and marina. I obviously would come back, I mean two days after eating here we ate at another of their locations.
The menu is all-American diner fare, and while the ingredients were typical for a greasy spoon, it tasted less like it was “made with love” and more like the kitchen was pushing quantity over quality. Granted, we were at the tail end of a long wait from the mid-morning rush, so it’s possible their day had been really busy.
The over-medium eggs and hashbrowns were great, and there was plenty of ketchup and hot sauce on the table.
The pancake was fine, but it was a bit disappointing to pay extra for bananas just for them to be on top, and not cooked inside, the pancake — had we known it was a topping and not a core ingredient, we would have opted for something else.
The country fried steak got was not bad, though the gravy was very mild on flavor. I was hoping for something with that homemade touch, but it felt more like food I’d be eating at any number of diners.
To be honest, we saw some plates of french toast at the order counter as we were wrapping up, and I snagged a picture because they looked delicious. If I were to go back to Red Hut, I’d be more willing to gamble on the French toast than have a repeat.
Ultimately though, brunch spots are limited in South Lake Tahoe, so sometimes good enough is still good. I’d be willing to try again if a long-time loyal fan showed me the ropes, otherwise I’ll likely try somewhere new next time.
