GG let me know I’m getting the 337 (area code) experience:)
I will absolutely be back to try everything. I was also very impressed with all their fresh cakes and pies. I just couldn’t swing it all this visit. But definitely going back on a cheat day!
My family and I have been coming to Abe’s for years. The atmosphere, food, and service have always been great—until tonight.
It started when my food came out wrong. I politely asked the manager to fix it, but he seemed to have an attitude and was clearly unhappy about correcting the order.
Despite that, my family and I continued enjoying our evening, catching up and talking like families do. Around five minutes until closing, I ordered a second glass of wine. At first, they hesitated, saying they were closing, but I was eventually served.
After that, my mother decided she would like to have a beer while I finished my wine. When we went back to the counter—at two minutes until closing—we were told very aggressively and loudly that they would not sell any more alcohol. The way it was said was rude and embarrassing, and it was loud enough for the entire restaurant to hear. After the manager said no, the employees behind the counter began gossiping and staring at us, which made the situation even more uncomfortable and unprofessional. The interaction involved a heavyset man and a thin woman behind the counter.
I completely understand not taking food orders at closing time, but we were not ordering food. We had been there since 7:00 PM, and they close at 8:00 PM. We felt rushed out the door and unwelcome.
To make matters worse, after I had to drink my wine quickly just to leave, the man locked the door right in front of us while we were still standing outside. We hadn’t even been outside for a full minute. It felt intentional and extremely disrespectful, as if we were not welcome to ever return.
This experience was shocking and disappointing, especially for a place we’ve supported for years.
The cherry on top is the incredibly nice staff. We were eating with our young kids, and I forgot to order one of their burgers “plain”. Totally my fault, but one of the women working here saw her face and knew she wasn’t going to eat the burger with all those vegetables (lettuce, tomato, etc.) on it. Again, totally my fault, but she brought a completely new plain burger for my kid…and was more than sweet about it. It saved our Mother’s Day dinner. Thanks y’all. We will be back, absolutely.
