Every time we come here to the Pub the cook must go as slow as they possibly can cooking then decides to wait to put it up for the servers. I say this because every server we have when we come in always apologetic for the wait on our meal.
Oh yes and quite a few of the tables were empty at 1:00 when we came in.
Really wish the pub would fix this problem
However, when I went to the gift shop, I saw they were selling the house made mustard that was on my burger. When I looked at the ingredients list, I saw on the mustard bottle it said “warning: contains gluten”.
So, the server, chef, and restaurant manager all gave me inaccurate information. When I spoke to hotel staff upon checking out after being sick all night, they were mortified as they said everything on the specials menu at the time was made with their in-house brewed beer and that no one with celiac should order anything off the current specials menu. I received multiple free water bottles to my room to help with the glutening experience, but I am incredibly frustrated by this situation. I do not recommend this restaurant for anyone with celiac.
Tucked away on the grounds of McMenamin’s Edgefield, the Power Station is a charming historic spot—eclectically decorated to match its artsy, nostalgic surroundings. So far, so good.
But let’s talk about what really matters: beer and food. Either my eyes have grown or these so-called “pints” have shrunk. Four years ago, the price was lower and the glass was fuller. Now my Sunflower IPA runs $7.75, and while it tasted fine, it wasn’t exactly a TravelValue. Was I blown away? NAH.
My wife’s Smokestack Mac & Cheese ($18.75) was dry as a bone and barely warm. Not exactly comfort food. My Reuben Kincaid sandwich ($22.75), on the other hand, came out hot, as did the Cajun tots. Points for that. And yes, I rhyme sometimes … I guess that makes me a culinary Longfellow.
Still, $23 for a sandwich? Prices here have skyrocketed into the stratosphere. We’ve lived abroad and seen inflation, but this level of price gouging would get you laughed out of a Portuguese café.
After dinner, we waddled over to the Winery Bar—a skinny little room where $14 glasses of wine are apparently the norm. WHAAAAT? That’s not ambiance, that’s insanity.
We came. We ate. We paid too much. We left unimpressed.
CombatCritic Gives Power Station Pub 5 Bombs Out Of 10
… More Bombs Are Better – Unless You’re On The Receiving End!
Food was ok, we hit happy hour and everything was great, I couldn’t get a refill on the strawberry lemonade which was a bit odd business choice imo for a $6 lemonade. Tater tots are good and so was the sliders, Caesar salad was a bit under seasoned and light on dressing/flavor. Atmosphere was cool to look at but it was very loud inside, hard to hear someone sitting across from you.
My husband and I were visiting from out of town, and decided to try this place for lunch. Of course we accidentally walked into the lodge first, and wondered around until one of the information desk workers told us how to get to the pub.
The garden we walked through was beautiful. The grounds themselves were a sight to see. Once we made to the pub we were able to get seated quickly. Our waitress was super sweet and was able to tell us about some of the history of the place. Loved our beers and the burgers were cooked perfectly. Will definitely recommend this place to others!
My apologies ahead of time for the pictures of the menus, I had taken quite a few of them as I do with all of my pictures and then once back at my room I go through them to pick the best – I accidentally deleted the ones that were more clear and complete
Lisa was our server and she was very attentive and friendly.
I do want to add that I am super disappointed they did not have dairy-free options for coffee.
My friend wanted to order a coffee and they did not have oat milk or almond milk or coconut milk – I would think McMenamins of all places would be on point with something like this.
I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with a salad and it was really good. I’m not sure if it was the bun that was buttery or if they applied butter to the toasted bun, but that is how I make my burgers at home and that just added on to the goodness.
My friend ordered a Mystic which is a non-meat burger/fries and after taking a bite she questioned if it was real meat, she even asked Lisa if by accident she received a real hamburger and was told no it just happens to be a really good non-meat option burger.
We sat there for 3 hours and Lisa was very kind about it.
I had two Bailey’s and coffee, yummmm
