My first time here and it was an okay experience. I got the teriyaki chicken with fried rice. To be honest, I was a little disappointed. It’s not what it’s hyped up to be in the other reviews. Chicken is basic and rice was dry. I also got the Sweetie rolls which I really liked. The Ichiban rolls were good as well. The California rolls were pretty plain and weren’t my favorite. The best part of the meal was the Crab Ragoons. I really liked those. This place is fine for Freeport. I’ve been spoiled by Marc’s Fusion in Rockford which has phenomenal sushi and the best chicken fried rice I’ve ever had. This place pales in comparison, but is still a decent place to get takeout in Freeport.

Always enjoy eating here over the last several years!! If you don’t know what to get, try the crab fried rice and Ryan Roll- 2 of my favorites!! Everything I’ve tried is so good. Definitely pay them a visit!

The primary reason this rating is so low is because the atmosphere is completely wrong for a sushi place. There is no music, the decorations are japanese but that’s literally it. They have salt and pepper on the table. You start with a fork. We had to ask for soy sauce saucers. The amount of wasabi and ginger was much less compared to all of the other sushi places we have been to. They gave us fortune cookies at the end. The atmosphere is closer to a takeout diner that suddenly serves japanese food. The menu wasn’t bad. The fish selection wasn’t large, and 90% of all the rolls have cream cheese. The rolls themselves were okay. The tiger and the baked salmon rolls were great. The Marry roll, Alaska, and spicy salmon with crunchy rolls had very little flavor. The house salad dressing wasn’t bad at all; I just wish they had more variety in vegetables. The service was okay. Our waitress was very smiley, but was quiet and was not very engaging. She literally did her JOB. There’s nothing wrong with it, but having customer interaction really adds value to the customer experience. I doubt we would ever actively seek to go to this place again; if we were in the area and feeling very lazy, we would go here. The price isn’t bad for what you get.

Ichiban is a must-visit for anyone craving Japanese food. Their teriyaki chicken and crab rangoons are my personal favorites. Great customer service and very affordable prices, it’s easily the best spot. You won’t be disappointed!

Gas station quality.
Sashimi was frozen in the middle, portions were small, rice on both sushi rolls and plates tasted either old or undercooked. Sauce tasted like plastic and the chicken was hard. Either way it was not done well. I gave 3 stars simply because its the only option in freeport and close to me.
Far too over priced for the quality and content. Your better off DIYing your own.

For what I ordered, the price was excellent, the sushi was tasty and the fried rice was basic. Nothing fancy about Ichiban, which means ‘number 1’ in Japanese, how presumptuous. Ichiban isn’t a must visit, but if you’re in the area and you’re craving sushi, I would give them a try. First review of the new year, 明けましておめでとうございます

We honestly thought they were closed because of how long g it’s been for a review. They are still open and the only sushi game in town. I ordered the sushi for 4 and it was wonderful. The rangoons were a bit small compared to normal but I’ll get over it.

Great Sushi!!
I absolutely recommend this place if you want good sushi!!
Unfortunately, I’ve only had minimal hot dishes here do to not being very impressed compared to to other places.
The owner and staff have always been nice and efficient on time and my orders as well!
And just a heads up, it is only carry-out unfortunately!

This place has gone severely down hill over the last couple of years. After COVID they decided to close the dining area and never reopened it so its take out only. The sushi used to be decent at least. My last stop here however will be my last visit. The sushi was poorly slapped together, and falling apart. Taste was off, had a burned piece of something in the middle of my roll which I spit out. Hardly any Wasabi or ginger to go with the sushi. This used to be my place to go if I wanted to pick up sushi quickly. I’ll be looking for a new place now. They have lost my confidence as a customer and as a result my business as well.

The sushi is good for the price, which is very reasonable. About $5-6 for the standard rolls and maybe 9-10 for the fancy ones. The ‘box’ meals are a waste, in my opinion. Small salad (just lettuce), a big pile of plain rice, with a few pieces of whatever meat you ordered on top. Not much flavor in any of it. Crab rangoon’s were alright. Take out-only. Go to the door on the side of the building and stand in the very small breezeway to pick up your food.
