Disappointing food experience. Went for the Stag’s Leap Winery tasting experience. Wine was great and our host Pete was wonderful (passionate, knowledgeable, easy going, and open to all wine/food topics). The food for this 24 person tasting event was not worth the money. Bruschetta was soggy but flavor was good. Avocado belinis were also soggy and flavor was ok, salty. Lamb was raw and flavorless. Told the server it was raw and it came back with what looks like the entire plate was stuck in a broiler – potato puree came back crispy and the tops of the lamp were cooked but fat cap still solid and raw in the middle. Beef cut was a “rib piece” again served with lots of fat caps and rarer than many would enjoy. Didn’t enjoy the eating around it experience. Olive oil cake was yummy and not too sweet. One of our group ended up getting two different wines poured in the same glass as they were at the end of a bottle and mixed it up. Appreciate them correcting it quickly once we pointed it out. Parking was a struggle, thankfully my coworker and I got the last 2 valet spaces. Most guests at the tasting (including my boss) had to find a spot somewhere on the dark windy street. For the price and fine dining label, you could go to better places in Portland.

A Truly Exceptional Dining Experience at Chart House Portland

From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the impeccable service, stunning views, and incredible food. The complimentary valet parking made arriving a breeze, and we were seated just before sunset — a perfect time to watch the skyline transition from golden light to twinkling city views. Absolutely breathtaking.

We started with the calamari, which was crisp, flavorful, and beautifully drizzled with sauce — easily one of the best versions I’ve had. The Caesar salad and lobster bisque followed, both decadent and rich with flavor.

For entrées, the steak and shrimp skewers were perfectly cooked, and the chimichurri sauce took the dish to another level. The crab-stuffed sole was a true standout — tender, flavorful, and expertly prepared.

We finished the evening with a chocolate lava cake that was pure bliss — warm, rich, and indulgent, the best I’ve had in a long time.

From the knowledgeable, friendly staff to the well-curated bar and happy hour options, every detail at Chart House feels intentional and elevated. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just want to enjoy an unforgettable meal with a view, Chart House Portland is the place to be.

Our first visit was exceptional, highlighted by gracious, attentive service and a relaxed atmosphere. We returned on a much busier evening, and while the dining room carried a noticeably different energy. The prime rib is an absolute must—beautifully prepared, richly flavorful, and unquestionably the standout on the menu. One note of disappointment was the salad served in the cheese bowl, which arrived cold and would have benefited from being freshly prepared. On the other hand, the bread was clearly fresh-baked, warm, and well executed. We would return specifically for the prime rib.

The Chart House in Portland is consistently an incredible experience every single time we visit. The food is always excellent, from the seafood to the steaks, and the quality never wavers. Every dish is prepared with care, beautifully presented, and reliably delicious, which is something you truly come to appreciate over repeat visits. The service is wonderful, attentive, professional, and warm without ever feeling intrusive. On top of that, the views are absolutely phenomenal and make the entire dining experience feel special and memorable, whether it is day or night. It is the kind of place you trust for celebrations, date nights, or simply a great meal, knowing you will leave happy every time.

This is hand down of the best happy hours in town. The view is absolutely spectacular. Their food selection and prices are fabulous and their drinks are just great.

They have a complementary valet parking, which makes the experience even better.

Did I mention their amazing views?? you cannot miss it!!!

Visited on 11/15/25 at 4:00 PM. Our server was very friendly, and the food was decent, but we encountered four notable mistakes:

1) I ordered the chopped salad without onions, but it came with onions.
2) We were informed that we would receive bread with our salad, but it didn’t arrive. I had to remind the server, and it was packed to go at the end of our meal.
3) We didn’t receive the bleu cheese sauce that was supposed to accompany the swordfish special. The server caught this mistake halfway through our meal.
4) The mashed potatoes that were supposed to come with the swordfish special were also missing. I had to bring this to the server’s attention towards the end of our meal, and they were packed to go.

The view from the restaurant is really nice, especially with clear skies. However, considering it was a very slow time at the restaurant, it’s surprising to have encountered so many mistakes on my wife and my first visit to this establishment.

There’s a few of these across the Nation. I have only eaten at the Portland location. The food is good quality and the staff is all very professional. This is where you go if you want some surf and turf with a beautiful view.

You have to valet park because parking is very limited but they have an efficient system. I had some really good oysters when I went and the oysters were from Puget Sound and some of the best I’ve had lately. My date and I each had the prime rib with a shared side of green beans. The green beans were delicious and prepared perfectly and vibrant green with an “Asian” sauce that was soy and ginger based and I was very glad we ordered this side.

The Prime Rib was perfect just as you would expect and the whole experience was very pleasant. Great conversation is always better with a view of the city. One criticism and only one. I always have an old fashioned cocktail when dining out and their old fashioned was not my favorite. I still had two over the hour of dining but it was not my favorite and lacked any sweetness and seemed a little watered down. If the managers read this you may want to see if they know how to make them properly. It wasn’t anything I cared to complain about at the time. Life is too short and a poorly made cocktail is just a trifle in the day.

So in conclusion it was a good menu and well executed dishes and excellent service. I will keep it on my list of places to revisit.

Everything here is good. Made a reservation for my son’s 30th birthday. Greeting was warm and friendly, we were seated quickly at a table with a gorgeous view. Our server did a good job getting all the questions answered and the orders right. What impressed me most was our food was served timely and it was HOT, like they had just finished cooking it. It has been ages since my food was served so hot I had to let it cool a bit! It was delightful! All five of us really enjoyed our food. I ordered grilled Mahi and it was delicious. My son gave me a bite of his filet mignon and oh my gawd, that was the most tender steak bite I’ve had in forever. They served my son a special dessert, and we ordered two desserts so we ended up with too much, but it was sweet that they had a candle for him so we could sing happy birthday.

There was also a table for 20 or so (wedding party I think?), kudos to the kitchen for keeping it together with a party that large during regular service!

Took Mom for birthday dinner and it was amazing. The ambiance, food, and service made for a beautiful evening. Mom was so impressed. Stellar view and top tier cuisine. Also, very reasonably priced. Easily Portland’s best.

This restaurant is a gem! I wish I’d discovered it sooner. The setting up in the West Hills is lovely with a great view of the river. We enjoyed cocktails and Happy Hour food in the downstairs lounge, and everything was excellent. Service was prompt and friendly. Definitely recommend!
