Fresh bread, prime cuts of meats and the roasted peppers give these sandwiches a distinguish taste. When in Jersey City you have to stop by. You will not be disappointed.

It’s a local bakery shop that supplies my daily bread needs. You can use both cash and card. The bread is fresh and most of the time still warm in the bag. The price is totally fair and worth the freshness. If you go in the morning (like 9am ish), you can choose both savory breads and some sweet breads. I’m visiting regularly to support the local business.

Love this spot for fresh baked goodies and sandwiches – we’ve been going here for 4 years now. I may be giving away a pro tip, but you can definitely order some breakfast sandwiches that are not on the menu. They bake their bread in house so everything is fresh and delicious. I also saw that they now accept card! They’ve also just added some new menu items – I tried the honey almond cheesecake cookie and it was really good.

This might be the best sandwich I’ve ever had — I’m literally still eating it as I write this. We split the pastrami Swiss and the chicken cutlet and both were incredible. Officially our new favorite neighborhood spot.

Hands down the best sandwich shop in JC. The bread is damn good and anything they make with it makes it complete. Be sure to bring cash as it is cash only. The prices are all reasonable with good portion sizes to guarantee you’ll be full. From the sandwiches to the platter to the pastries, you can’t go wrong here. They all hit home. Feel free to close your eyes, point at anything on the menu and be impressed. It may not look appealing but delicious they are. Highly recommended!

I drive up from Middletown to come here because I got addicted to the lasagna while living in JC a few years ago. Best lasagna ever with tons of ricotta. I get it with one meatball and one sausage, which are also fantastic and so is the sauce. Their pepperoni rolls are also not to be missed. And I snagged the last chocolate bread today! Lucky me, it was my first time having it and it did not disappoint! The prices are also great, they could probably charge more and people would still pay it.

This is what I would call a community bakery. Delicious, seasonally-updated menus, and surprisingly cheap.

Vegan or not, their eggplant mozzarella breads are their must-try. The perfect combination of sauce and eggplant is pure majestic.

What a place. As good as any deli in Jersey City, a city plentiful with high quality deli options.

From what I’ve gathered, getting there early is the move as they quickly run out of fresh breads and other menu items.

I stopped in around 1-2pm, and, despite the limited options, I knew I came to the right place. I ordered a hot pastrami and Swiss sandwich as well as a hot roast beef w/ mutz and gravy. $6 sandwiches! Unreal value. The sandwiches were incredible.

I cannot wait to go back in the morning for the full experience. And the woman working behind the counter was a true delight. Older Italian woman, writing down orders with a dull pencil on a ripped piece of loose leaf paper. A perfect, timeless system. LOVE it.

Appearances can be deceptive, and there can be no better example of this than Second Street Bakery! From the outside, it looks pretty inconspicuous, but the food here is so good! I had the chicken cutlet parmigiana hero. It was very tasty, the chicken cutlet being layered with roasted peppers and fresh mozzarella, balsamic vinegar and olive oil. The regular size is more than enough for one person and costs only $4.50. But the star of the show was the St. Joe’s Sweet Ricotta Pastry. I had a taste of it while my hero was being prepared and promptly asked the sweet old lady behind the counter for one more( last one remaining). It was the perfect combination of not-overly-sweet ricotta cheese with bread. Just thinking of it makes me want to go there for more. I highly recommend this place. Also, note that this is a cash only place and it closes at 3 pm. Get there before they run out of the good stuff.

The “large” sandwiches are are ENORMOUS. Perfect Italian sandwich bread, delicious meats and cheeses with tasty accompaniments. Cash only, amazing value ($9 when I got a large Bergen sandwich).
