I was hesitant whether to make this post or not but I said here goes nothing.
Ill start with the positive comments.
Food was awesome !!! I enjoyed everything this was our 2nd time coming here and I have to say the dinner items are more my favorite their crabs are to die for ! Service was great ! But i had a bad experience with the host in the front named gliner very rude person never smiled and just her personality comes off as a rude person . My daughter 7 years old tried to hug her when we walked in there & you should’ve seen the face she made like she was disgusted or something that I had to apologize to her & never did she say anything back she remained with a negative face/attitude .but the cashier was so sweet she truly made my daughter’s day because she came over to our table and offered her some chopstick helpers and asked her for a hug since she was in the front & saw how the host rejected my daughter !now that’s the type of customer service we like that my husband had to tip her cause she made his baby’s day by asking for a hug . The cashiers name is Mayra very sweet person she definitely needs some kind of recognition because not everyone has a good energy or personality in the restaurant industry.

It seems nobody in management has knowledge of what is happening on their food lines. I went there for supper one evening and they were serving crosscut beef ribs. They were delicious but when I attempted to have more the pan was empty. I asked when more would be brought out and was told 10 to 15 minutes. So I decided to wait. At 30 minutes my waitress brought my check. I asked her if she could see if the ribs would be forth coming she spoke to someone and told me they’re on the way. Another 10 minutes and no ribs. She got the Mgr on duty and she went In the kitchen and returned shortly and said they were on the way. After another 5 or so minutes I made the decision to leave. She explained that she didn’t know this product was on the menu and that the cook had substituted them for another item. She also said this product was normally offered on Wednesdays. Well I returned on January 21, 2026. There were no ribs of this type on the menu. I told the lady that hostess I would be leaving instead of eating. She spoke to the Mgr and she came to me to understand my complaint. After explaining myself and my disappointment and why I was choosing to leave I was offered a 10% discount. That was kind of her and was appreciated. She also explained that there is a staff meeting on Mondays and she would address this situation with everyone. Please don’t get me wrong, this was my 3rd visit in a row I experienced a disappointment with their food products. In mid December I visited and at one time counted 11 different items that were empty and stayed that way for most of the time I ate my meal. I feel I gave it a fair shot to see improvement but most likely won’t return unless chanes are made. Maybe in the future I may return because I truly enjoy buffets and this one is located close by.

Food is good but not amazing. I enjoyed the honey walnut shrimp, garlic shrimp, plantains, and my husband enjoyed the orange chicken and 1 or 2 other things on his plate. For less than $20 a person this place is worth it.

Place looks nice on the inside but BEWARE they have a nasty behind the scenes Environment the picture I’ve taken was of a baby ROACH which means they have many more somewheres. This was by the hibachi station.

This place is good for a lunchtime,
The restaurant is clean and the service is good.
They have more choices and various foods for the price of $14.00 compared to King Star $13.49. However their steak-pepper and chicken stirred fried are not well.
It is special to have a Beef-tripe (honeycomb and pocket tripe, blanket/flat/smooth tripe, book/bible/leaf tripe) and the seashell salad is so great and nice.

Other China Star Buffet places have better interior design and atmosphere than this one.

The staff who clean the tables are polite and fast.

Replenishing the food in the buffet area is not that fast.

My favorite is the baked mussels.

If you are expecting sashimi or raw fish, don’t go there. The sushi selection is disappointing. Not even a california roll. There not even avocado. Just cucumber. And who the hell use banana on the sushi!? Disgusting. Of course this kind of buffet are too cheap when it comes with ingredients.

They don’t even have osyters and crab legs. Just some small whole crab. Usually they don’t have alot of meat in them. That also just tells you how cheap they are.

They also even don’t the ice cream machine but the ice cream in the cup are fine. Just wish they would have one though.

I asked the hostess if they have sweet tea and she said yes. And guess what I received…UNSWEETEN ICE TEA! She could have just said that! I feel like I’ve been lied to.

The food is mid if you ever been to china river in Pasadena this is nothing compared the food there isn’t much variety tried to hibachi and it still wasn’t good they need broccoli and chicken or something or nothing. Rice was like hard I even let them bring out fresh food and still this ain’t it
