We couldnt order any appetizers that were cooked because they had no one working the cooking station…..Our Cooks were very entertaining. In the intro, the cook spilled a entire drink on a family member of ours. My food order wasn’t put in correctly. I ordered a trio Ribeye, 4Large Shrimp and Scallops. I never received these large shrimp, but the traditional ones. My mother’s ordered was recorded correctly, but served wrong. She doesn’t eat shrimp, but received shrimp and teriyaki chicken. It was 815pm by the time we got our bills paid after several mix ups.
Very disappointed in what they’ve become as a local
Ps- You can order hibachi in the sushi bar if someone in your party isn’t a fan of sushi, and they offer fully cooked sushi rolls as well (check out the Kentucky Roll)!
Xmas Eve dinner at Aquinos is a family tradition. Been doing it for over 10 years. We know that a reservation does not guarantee seating at the prescribed time. However, we never previously had to miserable experience we did tonight.
After making a reservation for nine at 7:30 a month in advance, we arrived at 7:00 knowing Aquinos’ propensity for running late. Around 8:15, I enquired of the host stand about our status. I was advised there was a party of 14 ahead of us then we were up. Soon thereafter the party of 14 was seated, leaving only our party and a walk-in party of 9 in the waiting area.
Around 8:30 or 8:45, I returned from the restroom to find that the walk-in party of 9 had been seated, but not us. I asked to speak with the manager who swore to me the walk-in party had a reservation ahead of ours. The problem is that the walk-in party told me they did not have a reservation and, after we were seated, told me that they told the hostess that we should be seated ahead of them. This all fell on deaf ears.
I once again asked to speak to the manager . I admit I was a little more animated than the previous discussion with the manager. He once again swore the walk-in party had a reservation ahead of us. When I informed him that party told me they did not have a reservation, his response was, “Do you want to dine with us or not?” By this time it was 9:00. We had been there 3 hours. At that hour on Xmas Eve, the alternatives were limited. We were finally seated at or a little after 9.
Aquinos historically tends to overbook themselves for what I assume to compensate for possible cancellations (think of airlines overbooking). During the 10+ years of our family tradition, we have always had to wait 30-60 minutes past our reservation time to be seated. But 2 1/2 hours is unconscionable, especially when a walk-in group of the same size is seated before our party with reservations. I do not think the manager was untruthful about his belief that the walk-in party had a reservation (when they did not), I think there was a screw up at the host stand and with the check-in procedure. While frustrating for us, that might have been tolerable, but the manager’s retort after all of this asking me if we wanted to “dine with them” or not was callous, disrespectful, and unprofessional.
End result: the food, waitstaff, and chef were as good as always. However, the family is seriously considering breaking the tradition due to this regrettable experience.
The steak and chicken were absolutely delicious!
Great atmosphere, service. I give it a 4 because the foods we ordered is not fresh and the soy garlic noodle is so salty. Some staff was very kind and helpful, but the other wasn’t.
