Have been going to the Golden Fleece, an authentic Greek restaurant located at 525 Monroe St, Detroit, in the heart of Greektown, since the 70s. It has been known for its traditional dishes, late-night food options, and vibrant atmosphere. The restaurant has a cozy, authentic atmosphere that was renovated in 2020 to add a more modern aesthetic while preserving its original charm. The food continues to be incredible and serves the best gyros, period!

Golden Fleece opened its doors in 1970, making it the oldest restaurant in Greektown. Renovations in 2020 gave the interior a more modern aesthetic while preserving its charm.
When it comes to appetizers, I expect a Greek restaurant to have saganaki and spreads/dips. Not only does Golden Fleece have both, it offers five spreads to choose from. These can be ordered individually or as a trio, which is discounted. I’ve also tried the octopus. The menu doesn’t specify whether it’s served hot or cold, but it’s essentially a salad with an ample portion of octopus. All three appetizers are great ways to start a meal.
As for entrées, I’ve had the chicken lemonato and the “famous combo.” The highlight of the chicken lemonato was the lemon wine sauce. The combo includes a gyro and a kebob, and is served with fries or rice. For the meats, you can choose chicken or lamb. The portion size and quality of the meats make the combo the best bang for your buck on the menu.
With the Greek influence in Greektown fading more and more each year, Golden Fleece continues to keep the aura alive. It’s a great spot for lunch, dinner, drinks, or a quick bite. Plus, the Greek bake shop and market next door, Bakalikon, is accessible from within the restaurant. You can even order from Bakalikon’s menu while dining at Golden Fleece, and vice versa.

My family and I came to Golden Fleece to celebrate my birthday. Our waitress, Megi, was very attentive and the food was delicious. Construction has shut down Monroe St. but the restraurants are open and it is easy to find parking!

The rubber grape vines and the guy watching soccer on the old tube TV in the back are long gone but this genuine old Detroit classic remains. They make their gyro cones from scratch in house. As real as they come for that old Greektown quality. A true classic I never miss going to when downtown. Great prices. Food. Service. Opa! Don’t skip that octopus salad!

This place is AMAZING. My friend and I came here while exploring the city, and it did not disappoint. We shared a Haloumi as an app, and then I had the lamb gyros. My friend had the Greek salad. Everything was delicious, made in house and very generous portions! Our server Aileen was so attentive and gave us lots of recommendations for our visit. The market next door has great decor and had tons of Greek items (ex: sauces, candy, tahini, etc.).

Wow! This Greek restaurant is an absolute treasure! As someone who knows their Greek food coming from Chicago, I can honestly say this place is a standout. It’s not just the most incredible Greek cuisine I’ve enjoyed in ages, but the service is truly exceptional. Ashley was simply wonderful! She was so attentive and genuinely kind, making our lunch feel like we were catching up with an old friend in their home. What truly impressed us was that she remembered my husband and I from our single visit two months ago – that’s the kind of personal touch you just don’t find everywhere. Thank you for such a delightful experience! The drive is absolutely worth it, and we can’t wait to come back again soon.

My husband has been coming here for years and when we moved to Detroit this year we both started coming. I fell in love with the chicken lemonata and my husband loved the beef noodle lasagna. But after todays visit we will never be coming back. The first time they brought food to our table the beef noodle lasagna had NO noodles and my chicken was raw and obviously rushed. We sent it back and 20 minutes later received what was is pictured in my review. The cooks and manager should be ashamed that this was sent out. The manager told us he had been there a month and was training new staff and chef. We will sadly never be back.

This is our second time visiting, my Mom is very hard to please when it comes to Greek food ever since Hellas closed like 20 years ago. This restaurant more than exceeded expectations. The Saganaki, Greek Salad and Lemon rice soup were fantastic and the Lamb Souvlaki was tender and perfectly cooked. Lisa our server made the experience fantastic from beginning to end and I hope we are lucky enough to get her as our server next time we visit. 10/10 cannot recommend highly enough

Just wanted to give a shout out to Golden Fleece for making my first stop in Detroit very memorable and delicious!!! Thanks to our waitress Lisa, a co-worker and I had an excellent lunch and without a doubt the best Gyros I have ever had!!!! She started us off with some sausage on fire and it was amazing!! The Gyros I ordered had the lamb meat and it was some of the most tender and juicy meat I’ve ever had!! I was in the Detroit area for work and right out of the airport we stopped at Golden Fleece and it was phenomenal. If you are visiting Detroit then do yourself a favor and stop here you won’t be disappointed.
