Might be one of the best services I’ve received and I’m truly grateful for it. Shoutout to Yancy, really showed class and how to take care of customers. 10/10 experience.

I literally stopped by because I got a smog test down the block and was in the mood for steak. From the start the service was amazing and I truly felt welcomed. They explained to me the lunch, dinner, drink, and dine LA menu. Since I was new and the dine la menu was for a limited time seemed like a great value option to taste a bit of everything.

To start I got a old fashioned and let my waiter Yancy select the whiskey, he picked Woodford Reserve. Great choice, was a super tasty old fashioned and something I would order exact the same. To eat since I went with the dine LA lunch option I got house salad, red cabbage, cheese bread, 5oz filet mignon, baked potato, and key lime tart. All that food for $35, but I will 100% return and eat even without the special menu. It’s hard to truly put into words but all the food felt clean. They make there own ranch, use a real melted cheddar block, fresh sour cream. It’s real food, simple as that. My personal favorite was the cheese bread with red cabbage on top, that was memorable.

The food was delicious, atmosphere was delightful, and the service was beyond amazing. This is a MUST TRY!

Amazing place, unique flavors. I love coming here and have been since the early 90s. The steak, the red cabbage. I really love the salads… the cheese sauce for the potatoes. Its all mind blowing really. Its a must go to if you’re wanting a good steak. I would say its one of my favorite places to go.

Absolutely amazing experience from start to finish. The service was top-notch, the staff was friendly and attentive, and the food was cooked perfectly. Every dish came out hot, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The steak was tender and seasoned just right. The atmosphere was great and made the whole night even better. Definitely one of the best steakhouse experiences I’ve had and I’ll 100% be coming back.

Didn’t realize it had been years since I have enjoyed Steak and Stein and haven’t posted a review and there are a few things to report as changed. First Kudis for surviving a pandemic. Many icons in the neighborhood didn’t survive. The first obvious change is curb appeal. Some modest improvements with flower beds, lighting, and walkway paths from the parking. One primary entry towards the front – I will get back to that in a bit. The old bar has been remodeled. There used to be a little side dining area, a bar in the middle, and a lounge area by the vintage fireplace. Well no more- now you walk a small waiting hall to the hostess desk. Be careful it will be dark so if you have sunglasses on or it’s bright outside give yourself some time to adjust. Otherwise, you may bump into a guest. To the left is a larger dinning area with a music stage – so consider that the lounge area for date nights. The bar is in the middle with a counter and a few high stools. By the fireplace, it’s now all the dining area. I would guess that the new config optimizes the number of available tables for full-on dining. Service is still warm classsy and friendly. Ashley was a great host. Now the food. No downgrades in the quality of the ribe eye. Our absolute favorite here. Cheesebread is classic. Now the salad. Iceberg lettuce, crisp and fresh, with crunchy croutons. But the best is the dressings. Blue cheese, Ranch, and Fench. Here is my suggestion, mix in some of the purple cabbage salad and then smother with blue cheese dressing. Yum yum. Don’t go over medium on your steak. Trust the chef. I just love that you can make reservations online which helps with wait times. So not only did they survive Pandemic they improved and bumped up my rating to 5 stars. Way to go.

Steak ‘N Stein is classic, old school vibes and great food!

I’ve gone twice and both meals were enjoyable.

Their salad is delicious BECAUSE of the dressings! The blue cheese and house dressings are thiccc and rich. Definitely not healthy but mighty tasty! Save the dressings to dip your fried onions in!

The red cabbage salad is a great side. Bright and slightly acidic. Ask for more when your streaks come. It helps offset the richness.

And they give you buttery cheese bread! Need I say more!?

First time there I had the boneless rib eye medium rare. It was seasoned well and juicy. The second time I order the 9oz. top sirloin with grilled shrimp. The top sirloin was cooked to my liking. Medium rare. It was lacking seasoning and was a little dry despite being medium rare. Still tasty but should have ordered a NY syrup strip or rib eye.

Their monstrous potatoes and crispy onions are spot on! They cut your baked potato table side. Tell them how much butter you want. Then they add sour cream, green onions and CHEESE SAUCE!

Come enjoy the untouched, old school ambiance and classic steak house menu. It’s way better than North Woods Inn.

Matt the Bartender/Waiter was amazing on 11/24/2025. He was attentive, informative, very pleasant. He makes an outstanding Raspberry Lemon Drop. All staff were friendly. Food very flavorful and large portions. I highly recommend and looking forward to dining here again.

We had to leave after waiting an xtended period for a table due to the high volume of noise. We both wear hearing aids. Seated once, very noisy, asked for a quieter seat, seated a second time and couldn’t hear ourselves or waitress ! Noise level was unbearable! We got up and walked out! This was supposed to be an 85th birthday celebration! We were very disappointed! We came in for the lobster dinner. Website said $75, menu said $129! Can’t believe people could sit in that atmosphere, spend that much money and endure that noise!

Anniversary lunch, weekend prime rib.
I’ve eaten at other Clearmans restaurants so most these comments are about this location.

Food was what we have historically expected and pretty good for mid priced steakhouse. Only exception was famous cheese bread which was pretty soggy not crisp and no soup was available to replace salad (I cannot eat lettuce physically).

Service however was pretty poor, starting with no hostess. Seemed like a young staff not trained in finer service “old school” restaurants (like expected here). Menus dropped, 10 min later now we can order. Seasonal beer not available but … waitress nice enough, but got bothered 10 min into meal we met every member of the staff asking if we were done yet (separately of course). For the price paid and seeing the restaurant was half empty, this was not acceptable (experience there was food I was actively eating on my plate). For $100+ with two people I expected much more.

I grew up in the La area, so Clearmans is definately a trip down memory lane, this I’ll likely be back. But my expectations were much higher based on previous experiences.

Location:Okay, Parking:Good, Service: Okay, Lunch Menu; Yes, Presentation: Missing. Issues with meals: yes, Overall: This Clearman’s restaurant has been around for decades, and it is a favorite for many. But in the case of our party of 8, that was no longer the issue, as three of the dishes had problems, which is unfortunate but still fixable for future patrons. The three dishes that were not well received were fish dishes. All 3 ( 1 Halibut, 2 Mahimahi) were so dry that even tarter sauce could not save them. I don’t know if they cooked the fish the same as the steaks, but something was off. At first, the restaurant was going to leave us hanging until one of our party spoke with management on the issue. Then the matter was somewhat resolved, I hope this is a fluke for a large party and will be adjusted. I know fish cooks fast and needs to be cooked last prior to sending out. So, for a restaurant with a history of making good food, you would think this should not happen. So for today 2 Stars
