Social Profile:

Newt’s History & Today Newt’s began in 1980 at the former site of Holland’s Cafeteria and Bakery (1927–1958). The restaurant’s name honors Newton Holland, a community pioneer who helped launch Rochester’s downtown tree beautification project and the Rochester Art Center. Originally a casual street-bar with 75¢ taps, Newt’s soon became known for its burgers—quickly cementing its reputation as the go-to spot for cold beer and great food. Today, Newt’s has four locations—North Rochester, South Rochester, Apple Valley, and Express inside the Mayo Clinic subway. Each month, the restaurants serve over two tons of fresh, half-pound burgers on daily-baked, butter-grilled Kaiser buns.

Enduring destination serving classic & creative hamburgers & other pub grub, plus beer & cocktails.

I’ve been to Newt’s North a few times and really enjoy it. The Jalapeno Popper burger is delicious, and I love the free popcorn while waiting. The milkshakes are excellent, especially the Oreo and chocolate.

The only downside has been the regular fries, which tend to be either too salty or too greasy. The sweet potato fries are much better with a little honey mustard.

Overall, it is a great spot for burgers, milkshakes, and sweet potato fries.

Alright, Newt’s North is not playing around.
First off, the burgers? Absolute hitters. The kind that make you lean back in the booth, stare at the wall for a second, and reconsider every fast-food decision you’ve made this year. Juicy, messy in the right way, and built like they expect you to show up hungry.
But then… this Caesar.
Not your polite, brunch-with-your-aunt Caesar. No olives gently floating. No celery stick standing there like it’s trying to be healthy. This thing had a whole construction project on top of it. A vertical buffet. Bacon, fried goodness, and yes… an actual burger skewered like it volunteered for tribute.
It wasn’t a drink. It was a meal with hydration privileges.
You don’t sip it. You strategize it. You map out the order of attack. You question your life choices in the best way possible.
Newt’s North said, “You want a Caesar?” and then handed me a stack of food wearing a drink as a hat.
10/10. Bring your appetite. And maybe a fork.

On my way to MSP airport, I made a detour to Newt’s in Rochester after seeing rave reviews on Reddit claiming it had the best burgers in town and wow, they weren’t kidding.

Visiting from San Diego , I couldn’t resist ordering the San Diego Smashburger, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The patties were juicy and flavorful, the mayo was perfectly balanced not overpowering, just enough to tie everything together and the whole burger was a delicious tribute to my hometown. ‍♂️

Beyond the burger, Newt’s offers a solid selection of beers on tap , which pairs perfectly with the laid-back vibe. While waiting for your food, you can munch on complimentary popcorn , a fun and unexpected touch that makes the experience even better.

Service was friendly and attentive , rounding out a fantastic visit. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, Newt’s is absolutely worth the stop. I’ll be back next time I’m in town!

1st time eating here. I ordered the Ruben and WOW it was delicious. My daughter got a BBQ Bacon Smash burger and was impressed with the size, taste and said it was wonderfully juicy. Nice touch getting popcorn while waiting for our order. Waitress was friendly, never let our water glasses get empty. Bathrooms were clean. Music was not too loud.
Very nice place to eat!!! I would recommend it and I plan on coming back

First time in Rochester and was recommended this place by a local – it did NOT disappoint! Spectacular service from the moment you walked in. Consistent refills on soda at just the right time. Had boneless wings and artichoke dip. Dip was served with perfectly toasted bread. Was shocked to see popcorn on the table while you look over the menu, but was satisfied as the popcorn was buttered without being greasy at all. Would eat there again if I am ever in the area!

I don’t know why I never posted a review before. We’ve been going there for years, and it’s by far the best hamburger and sandwich joint in town. Hardly ever a long wait, and you can get your burger any way you like it. The Reubens are also superb. Excellent service, good music, and wonderful staff. I probably shouldn’t be posting this as we’d like to keep the place uncrowded.

Whataburger should be! Tasty juicy simple. The fries are pretty good too. I’m just not overly huge friend of non-McDonald’s fries.

I don’t get to Rochester very often but when I do I have gravitated to Newt’s and have never been disappointed. Although I wish the waitress would have talked me out of ordering a Coors Light lol.
They give you fresh popcorn which was very good especially for “bar” popcorn. This time I had Newt’s Big Mac. Very good melts in your mouth. Often the French fries served in restaurants are not very good. The fries at Newt’s are.
Our waitress on 1/13 was very good and attentive and considering that it looked like she was the only one working the front and the bar. She was really hustling and we never felt ignored.
This will be my go to place for lunch in Rochester.

Man, was I craving a hamburger on the way home from Mazeppa today. I was going to go to Five Guys, but then saw a billboard for Newts which I hadn’t eaten at for some time. So I go the mushroom burger and sweet potato fries. I sooooo disappointed. I barely ate 1/2 of the burger because it was so salty. The fries were good, except a little greasy and no salt at all which I was happy about. It was a little irritating that I had to wait awhile to order my sandwich also. I kept looking around for my server. Now I wish I went to Five Guys because I did not feel good at all with all that salt.
