Excellent food and service. We were blown away. Everything was delicious and perfect. The pork hock, lamb shank and sea bass were all amazing!!!! Great entrees and desserts. Lovely staff. Would highly recommend dining here when visiting Strasbourg. Dog friendly. We came back again for another meal equally delicious.

Honestly, it was just “fine.” For a place named after an onion, the French Onion Soup was surprisingly average and lacked that deep, caramelised flavour you’d expect. The main issue across the board was the salt—the chef was definitely heavy-handed, which totally drowned out the taste of the chicken and steak.
The value is decent at around €30, and the staff are friendly enough, but the place is incredibly stuffy- even in September. It felt cramped and lacked any proper breeze, making it a bit uncomfortable. It’s a perfectly serviceable bistro if you’re stuck, but it certainly doesn’t live up to the high rating online.
Overall, a middle-of-the-road meal that’s okay for the price, but don’t expect a culinary masterpiece.

This is a very popular restaurant located in a distinctive and charming neighborhood. Reservations are highly recommended — many walk-in guests were told they would have to wait until after 8:30 PM for a chance at a table.

The onion soup was pleasantly light and refreshing, while the escargot was richly seasoned and flavorful, making it an excellent appetizer.

For the main courses, the duck breast was sliced a bit too thin and cooked slightly more than expected, which was a little disappointing. The braised chicken, on the other hand, had a mild and comforting flavor.

For dessert, the tartness of the pear balanced beautifully with the sweetness of the caramel, creating a delightful and well-rounded ending to the meal.

If you’re in Strasbourg, L’Oignon is definitely a place you shouldn’t miss. Do make sure you book a reservation, as it gets busy and seating isn’t guaranteed otherwise.

We began with the onion soup, which was absolutely divine—rich, deeply flavourful, and wonderfully balanced. The escargot was another pleasant surprise: nicely chewy and not at all dry, unlike versions we’ve had elsewhere.

For the mains, I went for the tiger steak. While the flavour was good, a few pieces were unfortunately quite chewy and difficult to swallow. My mum ordered the pikeperch, which was the real standout—perfectly cooked with a decadent citrus note running through it.

All in all, L’Oignon offers a memorable meal with excellent starters and well-considered flavours. With a reservation sorted, it’s well worth adding to your plans when visiting Strasbourg.

We came from Australia to Strasbourg and had pre booked this restaurant. It absolutely did not disappoint. The staff were friendly and attentive, the food was well portioned and delicious and the atmosphere was warm and cozy. It was an amazing night out and I’m so glad it was the cherry on top for our last night in Strasbourg. The escargot was exceptional as were the hashbrowns with salmon. The risotto was on point and th fillet Rossini style was stellar. For dessert creme brûlée was delicious but the soufflé stole the show. Thank you so much l’oignon for a wonderful family evening.

I’ve been roaming around France the past few days and this is not just the best food I’ve had but the best service. This will be a meal you remember and if you are passing through Strasbourg you cannot miss the opportunity to eat here. I had the Duck with their homemade local pasta and Eacargot. This would challenge and beat any of the fancy Michelin star places in Paris in flavor , presentation and most importantly kind and warm service even to me as a foreigner. Thank you L’ Oignon for the amazing meal!

We had an amazing time at L’Oignon. The food was decadent and full of characters. Their Feuilleté d’escargots à la crème d’ail was the highlight of our meal. They really gave an interesting twist to the usual Caquelon d’escargots à l’alsacienne and we loved it!

This is the kind of cuisine you savor over good company and wine (which they have a great selection of), and you are guaranteed to have the best time.

Staffs are warm and attentive, the vibes are cozy, couldn’t asked for a better dining experience. Would really recommend anyone visiting Strasbourg to make a reservation here. I know I would always come back here whenever I’m in town.

The food here is genuinely outstanding-beautifully executed dishes with the kind of precision and depth you’d expect from a Michelin‑level kitchen. Every plate landed with clear intention and bold, memorable flavor. The wine selection complemented the menu perfectly, with thoughtful pairings that elevated the entire experience.
The only drawback is the space itself. It’s a bit cramped, and at peak hours you definitely feel the squeeze. But the quality of the food more than compensates, and once the plates start arriving, the room fades into the background. Overall, a remarkable culinary experience with Michelin‑caliber cooking, excellent wine, and a slightly tight layout that’s easy to forgive once you start eating. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and efficient, with smooth, unobtrusive service that keeps everything running effortlessly.

We tried the onion soup, the risotto crémeux au Parmigiano Reggiano, and the Filet de bœuf d’Alsace façon Rossini. Unfortunately, while the dishes looked appealing, the taste did not live up to the presentation.
The onion soup was not terrible, but it lacked balance. There was too much bread and cheese, which completely overpowered the onion flavour. The depth of flavour was missing.
The risotto was technically well cooked (the rice was properly cooked and nicely bound), but it lacked flavour. In my opinion, it needed a different or stronger cheese to give it more character.
The biggest disappointment was the beef fillet. It was almost completely unseasoned, very chewy, and poorly cooked. I could not finish it. For a €36 dish, this is unacceptable. It felt either cooked at excessively high heat or simply mishandled. A beef fillet should never be this tough. The fries and pommes sautées served as sides were also bland, unsalted, and not crispy at all.
We decided not to try their desserts as we were already disappointed by the food and did not feel it was worth it.
The ambiance is cosy and the staff were friendly, but nothing exceptional. We paid €105.50 for two beef fillets, one risotto (ordered as a side), one onion soup, one beer, and one glass of wine which is far too expensive for the quality received.
I would not return and would not recommend this restaurant based on my experience. Perhaps other dishes are better, but I can only comment on what we tried. If the beef fillet continues to be served this way, it should be removed from the menu or cooked properly before charging such a high price!!

The food was excellent – from the starters and the main course all the way to dessert. The entire experience was extremely pleasant, and every detail contributed to a wonderful overall impression. All in all, a truly great dining experience that I would gladly recommend
