If you’re from KC this place is nostalgic. Great dinner food. The smashed hamburgers with the fine sliced onions pushed and grilled into it. Just order a sack of burgers to go and enjoy.

We always enjoy and going to get burgers. We like the fact that the ground beef is freshly made and not generic patties like many fast-food places today. Always, love the chili cheese fries. Not sure who said they were going out of business, but they are always open when I go there. I know a few times they said they could not get enough employees to work there. Like many other places.

I hate to leave a poor review of this establishment bc of how much I love this place. But this isn’t the first time this has happened. I tried to place an order for pickup at 7:55 pm as I was grabbing cash from the ATM bc they’re cash only. No answer. Just decided to place in person. Pulled in as another customer was leaving the parking lot, door was locked. It was 8pm, closing time is 10pm according to their hours. Knocked on the door, no response from either employee that could clearly see and hear me. I yelled loud enough for them to hear me asking if they were closed. No response, wouldn’t even look at me. After this happening several times in the past, I’ll not be coming back.

This greasy-spoon esque joint did not disappoint! They are keeping the history alive on the corner of Vivion and Antioch in Kansas City. Hayes is a pocket sized counter style short order diner with a two person team. All the way down to the fact they are cash only! The older lady running the joint is the perfect mix of gruff but appreciative and there to make every customers experience what it should be! It was fun sitting in a booth watching them serve the customers. The food was great too! I ordered a double cheeseburger with chili cheese tots and got a single cheeseburger but it hit the spot! I mean what else is a first timer going to order at a burger and chili diner? It was just enough for lunch! The burger is a smash burger style with cooked onions smashed into it as well. Everything was cooked right in front of me and super fast! The chili cheese tots were banging as well. The chili is definitely an old school homemade tasting chili and on top of the tots with the cheese was great! They have old school pellet ice in their sodas as well! I didn’t get dessert but they had a whole list of pies and ice cream by the scoop as well as cinnamon rolls and a few other things! I bet they are amazing but I didn’t want to totally overload! I will definitely be back to experience more of this place!

I used to eat here a long time ago. Use to be a place to brag about. Not anymore. Their food is horrible! The chili I just purchased last night, I would not evan feed my dog! It was the most disgusting chili I’ve had in my life! Stay away!!

An old school, breakfast served all day, 10+ selections of pie, with less seating that menu options. CASH ONLY. Smaller thin burgers, so order a double or triple. Old flat top grill that has been serving KC for over 60 years. Could be confused for a mechanic from the outside but on the inside it’s Americana that is drying up. Cheap, fast and good.
