The best feature is the fire pit in the dog-friendly outdoor seating area. As a local, this restaurant fills a niche, for when we want a good burger and fries and want to take our fur baby with us. Not all the food is great, I love the coconut shrimp with sweet potato fries and my husband always orders the jalapeño burger with onion rings. It’s very causal with large portions and a few good beers on tap.

We eat here regularly. The burgers were good and I especially liked the BBQ Beef wrap. Their salads were good as well. It will be sad to see them go! 17th Street Grill has been our “go-to” place for lunch. Hope they find another place to set up shop!

I agree with the previous reviewers who panned this place. I, too, only wanted to review it because I was disappointed. We’re locals so we know where to get better fare, but happened to be in the vicinity & wanted something easy. The place has lots of potential. I just don’t know how you serve a burger in which the garnish is the best part. And it takes a lot to make me want to send a salad back.

The food was not horrible, however the prices are way out of line for the quality and the service. This is a walk up to the counter and place your order, they give you a number and drop your food off, which is served on paper plates and you are given plastic forks and spoons…..I am okay with that as long as I am saving money. However we ordered two fish taco plates and one beer and the bill was $32.00. There were literally three shrimp on my taco ??? For $16.00 a person you can get much better, food, service and eat off of real dishes at other restaurants….sorry to say I won’t be back.

This is a cool stop for lunch. On a cooler day it’s nice to eat by the fire pit. They make great burgers and wraps. I will say it’s a bit over priced for what you get, but the experience over all is good.

The only reason to review this place is to share that it is slightly less than ordinary. Prices are typical Monterey/Pacific Grove: $10 for anything because it’s made with frozen seafood. Crabcakes were soggy with oil. Calamari had no tentacles, tasted like batter, and came with no dipping sauce. French fries were standard Denny’s-type fare. Beers were good. Melted-and-refrozen (and misshapen) Popsicle-brand popsicles from the cooler were $2 each. Disappointing.

It was no balls and two strikes and we were down to our last out. My wife and I were camping at Limeklin Campground in Big Sur and decided to make the hour and a half trip to Monterrey to see the oldest operating light house on the West Coast at Los Pinos. We ventured into the quaint town of Pacific Grove. It is surrounded by old Victorian houses and the downtown district is shopping in the restored buildings and boutiques.
First strike: We were traveling on a Tuesday. Los Pinos is closed on Tuesday. Undauntedly, we drove further into Pacific Grove for lunch. We headed onto the main drag, Lighthouse Avenue.
Second strike: After hearing rave review of Toasties’ Restaurant, we decided to get some lunch. Toasties’ Restaurant is closed on Tuesday. We walked further down the street, passed antiques and art-work shops.
Foul tip: We decided to have lunch at a promising looking coffee house- they closed as we walked in at 2:00! Unfortunately for us, it was their standard operating procedure.
Never to give up, and the constant growl in our stomachs urging us on, we decided to try a place called “The 17th Street Grill” aptly located on 17th Street and Lighthouse Avenue.
We were seated quickly in the bustling café. We’d have liked to sit in the spacious pet-friendly patio, but the weather had other ideas.
I ordered the Calamari Steak Sandwich and a Snapple, my wife, ordered fish tacos and a glass of local Chardonnay (several brands of wine available, and beer, including Guinness on tap). Very soon our food slid into home in little plastic baskets.
The 17th Avenue Grill hit one out of the park! My Calamari was perfect! With lettuce, tomato, tartar sauce and slightly toasted bread it was a stand-up double. My wife’s fish tacos were delightful with fresh salsa and grilled onions. But the ALL STAR was the onion rings. They are the very best onion rings I have ever eaten in 60 years. I consider myself an onion ring connoisseur and believe me, in my most solemn vow, these rings were a hit over the fence!!! Just the onion rings were worth the trip to Monterrey and the tariff on the entire meal!
All-in-all, our trip to the 17th Street Grill was a home run. The staff was fun, happy, friendly and welcoming. Dogs and kids welcome. Dress is tourist causal. Wi-Fi available. Prices are moderate. Beer & wine. 4 outta 5 stars.

Great mom and pop burger shack. BLT is great and the pineapple burger is outstanding. Get here early or mid week as lines get long.

The food was tasty and I was not expecting the portions to be as big as they were. Their wraps are more like burritos. I’m looking forward to coming back and trying a salad.
