This is a solid French restaurant. Uncluttered, mellow, quiet environment. Classy but unpretentious. Service by Rollin was excellent. He was very attentive, but never intrusive. Timing of dishes was perfect. The food was excellent. A great place to go for an anniversary or birthday. $190 for two including a $60 bottle of wine and tip. I would definitely return.

Just before Christmas I treated my wife to a wonderful anniversary dinner. I have ridden by this restaurant many times but a friend told me he and his wife consider it to be their favorite so I decided to take a chance. My first step was to learn about their ingredients because my wife is allergic to soy and if you hadn’t already noticed, soy is in practically everything. Mere hours after sending an emailed inquiry about this I received a detailed reply from Brian Moore, the proprietor. That was hugely helpful so I felt comfortable in making reservations. The atmosphere was comfortable, not stuffy or pretentious. The hostess was very pleasant, and our server, Richard, was delightful. Our food was outstanding – prepared just right! It’s a fine dining experience so I expected to spend a bit more than I would for a casual dining restaurant but for me and my wife it was well worth it.

Wonderful authentic French restaurant. Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Cost on par for a very nice dining experience, and great for anniversary, Valentine’s Day, and other special occasions. Not very suitable for children in my opinion (for the comfort and enjoyment of the other diners). Plenty of free parking.

We had a team dinner of about 12 people. Staff was very friendly, helpful and attentive . The menu was very enticing, i had the sea bass and potatoes gratin and both were excellent. Great desserts too. A little pricey but definitely worth it I would recommend this place. I even tried escargot

We moved away for a short time and now back on a regular basis. Chez Max special tonight was Halibut. Outstanding. Fresh- good size- portion. Perfect sauce. Just amazing. Sat in bar area with Troy. Excellent experience.

Classic French Food done right. Just an excellent experience all the way around. From the owner Brian selecting just the right wine for us, to Troy at the bar providing attentive but no intrusive service, it was perfect. Our French Onion soup was everything you would expect, the Filet’s were perfect, but the most amazing thing was our desert. An exceptional apple gateaux with chestnut ice cream. There was no better way to celebrate my birthday.

Bar drinks well made by an experienced barman. Escargot, French onion soup (6*), venison, duck, Spinach , tuna tartar, , all fabulous. There was just something indescribable about the cream brulee I can’t put my finger on that really made it special. Listen to Oliver – he won’t steer you wrong. Our first trip but certainly not the last.

With a group of 10 people. Most of our orders were served only warm, not hot. My $54 fillet mignon was barely cooked and even after getting it recooked it came back barely done as instructed. Not what anyone would want when spending that much money. The French onion soup however was very good and properly temperatured. The service was very good and the ambience was very nice. It would be tough for me to reconsider coming back.

I came on a date night with my wife. Ordered the filet, medium. It came out between medium well and well done. You’ll notice i rated them 5 stars, well; that is because the owner personally brought me my medium filet in what felt like only one minute from when I sent it back. I wasn’t made to feel weird about sending it back, and was treated superbly which in today’s world you get treated like a “Karen” if you send your steak back. All the food, including the new improved filet, was impeccable, and I cant wait to go back. Loved this place. Service was beyond excellent. Owner handled things perfectly.

The meal was flat and remarkable– competently prepared, but nothing stood out either in the menu selections or their execution. (There is nothing on the menu that cannot be found– prepared as well if not better– at half a dozen other RVa restaurants.) The ambiance was comfortable enough, though nowhere near justifying the price point. Service was uninspired end at times bordered on the unprofessional.
Did I have to stop somewhere else for food afterward? No. Did I actively dislike anything? Also no. Would I ever go back? See previous answers.
