The mechanical bull is such a fun touch — whether you hop on or just watch, it adds to the whole experience. Perfect place for a night out with friends, date night, or just to let loose and enjoy. Already can’t wait to come back!
Absolutely a great spot
Up until that night, I was a devoted regular – spending 2-3 evenings a week there, dropping $600-$800 a month on a beer and tips. I genuinely considered it one of Arlington’s absolute best: lively atmosphere, great service, and an unbeatable rodeo-side vibe.
Then, out of nowhere, everything changed.
I was standing quietly near the bar. Not causing a scene, just sipping the beer I’d paid for and watching the rodeo, occasionally tapping the phone. No talking at all, no rowdiness, just enjoying my drink. Suddenly, security demanded I leave. When I politely asked why and requested just a few more minutes to finish my paid-for beer, the response wasn’t an explanation. He just called police escort.
The officers, to their credit, were kind, professional, and refreshingly human. They admitted there was no clear reason for my removal – it likely came down to a personal bias or private grudge from someone on staff. They gently reminded me this is a private business, free to choose its guests however it pleases even if that choice feels unjust, humiliating, or, frankly, suspicious.
Was it racism? I’m a white guy, the security guard who ejected me was Black. That’s the uncomfortable thought that crossed my mind first, not because I assume malice, but because nothing else made sense. No argument, no disruption, no violation of rules. Just gone.
I’d like to be returning but I will not. Not out of spite but because loyalty shouldn’t be met with public embarrassment. You shouldn’t have to wonder if your next beer might end with police lights because someone felt like it.
So, should you go? If you’ve never had an issue, absolutely. The drinks are great, the energy is electric, and the rodeo view is unmatched. But if you plan to become a regular, tip well, and assume basic respect in return? Think twice. In this “private little shop,” your money and manners might not be enough to shield you from someone’s unspoken prejudice.
A heartbreaking lesson: sometimes the best places leave the worst aftertastes.
The menu offers a nice mix of elevated comfort food—I especially loved the crispy chicken and the creative small plates we shared. The cocktails were well-crafted and flavorful, with a fun, inventive twist.
Service was attentive and friendly, though the place did get a bit busy, so there was a slight wait for drinks at times. Still, it didn’t take away from the overall enjoyable experience.
I’d definitely recommend BOE if you’re looking for a trendy spot with great food, drinks, and a lively vibe. I’ll be back to try more for sure!
There are two levels. Two bars on the ground floor in addition to Bo, the mechanical bull. BOE stands for The Bo Experience. The rooftop bar has a Tiki theme and plenty of space along with great views. They offer light late night food and delicious signature cocktails.
On the weekends, they have live music and DJs. The place is already packed since they opened. It is located next to where the old Whitlows / B-Live used to be. Must be 21+ to enter. It is walking distance from the Clarendon metro station with limited street parking. There is one disabled parking spot in front.
🙂 My only comment is to add some padding to the mechanical bull because I rode it for a minute and have a 6 inch bruise on my inner thigh that HURTS!
