We stopped at La Doña Cocina for a late dinner while driving from FL to MA, and I’m so glad we did. We were the only ones there but the place still had such a fun, lively vibe. The staff made us feel like family — honestly felt like we were eating dinner at their house. The homemade salsas were incredible and everything we ate was delicious. They even gave us a small bowl of pozole just to try! There was a bit of a funky smell (like a bathroom), but I saw they’re temporarily closed now so maybe they’re fixing that. I’d still totally go back — the food and people were amazing.

Overall an excellent experience. Can tell that they cared about their food and culture! Great service and cute restaurant space. All the dishes were beautiful AND delicious. They do not serve alcohol but it was not missed. They do serve tamales everyday now. The pozole and chicken mole specials were fantastic. The queso fundido with chorizo was also a hit! Highly recommend.

Do not walk, RUN to this gem. The food is incredible. Really fantastic depth of flavor, fresh, and the corn tortillas are the best I’ve ever had. Cannot recommend their peanut and dried chili sauce enough. This place is the biggest and best surprise I’ve had in a long, long time.

The place is very cozy and comfortable. I got a chicken tamale and enchiladas suizas. My wife got three chorizo tacos and a coffee. The food was all amazing. The tamale was huge, and it was some of the best coffee either one of us has ever had.
The service was on point. It got a little loud at one point but that wasn’t their fault. We will definitely be going back.

The atmosphere here was very creative and colorful, and the service was great. They seemed to take pride in the fact that the food was made authentically from scratch in the kitchen. We were hoping the food would be much better and more seasoned, but I did like the blue tortillas on the mushroom tacos.

Food is very flavorful and feels homey. The pazole soup is perfect on a cold day, each component is like bursting with flavor: the broth; the chicken pieces; carrots; and hominy.
The menu says tamales are only on the weekends but that’s not true anymore I was told. The flavors sound really exciting and I’ll be back to try them. The salsa selection is inspired.
Our waiter was really sweet and answered my many questions in a super friendly way.
And the atmosphere is really charming. I’m not one to celebrate my birthday, but if I did, this is the kind of place I would wanna celebrate it. Very grammable. I bet kids would like this place too bc it’s colorful.

We happened upon this unassuming place because it was highly rated on Google and near our hotel. They said they were only serving a special Valentine’s Day menu, so we said OK! Special drink, two appetizers, salad, main and dessert. It was very tasty, well balanced, well seasoned and really good!

This place is LEGIT!! I was born and raised in Mexico City and I can tell you this is one of the few places in Richmond that sent my SOUL to my core childhood memories.

Would give 10 stars if I could. The meal was delicious, the atmosphere is clean, nice and welcoming. Our server was outstanding and service is friendly. I HIGHLY recommend this place if you’re looking for traditional Mexican cuisine.
We really loved how authentic the food was made. They have “cafe de olla” a delicious coffee made with cinnamon in a clay pot. Just a wonderful dining! I’ll definitely come back!
