Fried Fish Sandwich Superstar Little Fish Opens in Melrose Hill
Little Fish is all grown up and better than ever – Review – Los Angeles
Reviews
The fried fish sandwich is flawless and earns its reputation immediately. Crisp to the core, fresh inside, layered with dill pickle, American cheese, and kewpie. The bread is excellent, the proportions spot-on. It’s the kind of sandwich that makes you pause mid-bite. The marinated steak salad is bright and savory, cabbage and carrots providing crunch and lift. It’s hearty without heaviness. Fries arrive hot, crisp, and black-peppered, with a side of horseradish aioli bringing a sinus-clearing jolt. Kintoki carrots with seven spice offer sweetness and depth, the whipped tofu beneath acting as a creamy counterpoint. It’s a beautifully designed space where the hospitality is warm, attentive and polite. Turning a late weekday lunch into a small luxury, unrushed and deeply enjoyable.
The fish – which should have been the star of the show – felt underseasoned and lacked acidity. We ordered the crudo and steelhead and both could have benefited from a squeeze of lemon.
Chicken was great and fries were great. The masa dessert was wonderful.
However, when we were first seated at our table, I asked if we could sit in the corner table and the host bluntly said “NO” and then walked away. I completely understand that certain tables need to be saved, but that response felt strange and curt. It could have been simply “that table is taken.”
