I came to celebrate my birthday! I’ve heard great things about this establishment, and I was hoping it’d be worth it since it was my first time going. We had a reservation for 5 p.m. It didn’t take long to realize that this was the perfect place to celebrate. Very open-concept—you could see into the kitchen. The high ceilings and dim, intimate lighting are a wonderful touch.

service: kind and attentive, drinks stayed full. we were checked on regularly—not overdone, but enough for the courses to go smoothly

{ appetizers }
PEI mussels: fantastic, the sauce was incredible!! the sourdough bread was great as well, and even better paired with the sauce. definitely a must-try

Tuna and Salmon Tartare: a hit for nearly everyone. guac is perfect w seafood! i loved it

Honey Butter Biscuits: i personally don’t care for biscuits, but everyone else said they were amazing!

{ entrees }
Halibut: very tasty, everything went well together. nothing more to say really, it’s a great dish!!

Scallops: the scallops themselves were super delicious. the rest of the mix was tasty, but very thick and heavy—which i personally didn’t care for. the mushrooms were a great touch.

the other entrees were Grilled Shrimp and Fried Shrimp. i didn’t try them

{ desserts }
Complimentary Funfetti Angel Cake: free bc it was my birthday! surprisingly, this was my favorite dessert! it was so delicious

Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée: despite being such a large portion…there was nothing left of it to take home ! we loved the vanilla flavor and how light it was.

Chocolate Covered Pretzel Cheesecake: i didn’t care for the salty-sweet combo (wasn’t my decision to order it). though, out of four, only one of us liked it—the person who wanted to order it. the cheesecake itself was decent, but i still wish we had gone with something else.

A perfect treat. A friend who dines there regularly was eager to have us join him to understand why he likes it so much. He was right. We enjoyed every dish he recommended – the buratta salad, mussels, oysters, blackened shrimp, soup and cake. Lucky Johns Island!

Everything that hit the table was amazing! Beautiful ambiance inside. We came for my birthday and everyone loved the meals, apps, and deserts! My whole flounder was the best I’ve ever had. Super fresh crab dip, calamari, shishito peppers, and steak. Top notch place for a special occasion or just a nice date night!

The Royal Tern absolutely lives up to its name – dining here was a truly royal experience. We had dinner with another couple and enjoyed their company as much as the food! We collectively shared salads and fluffy yeast rolls which were amazing. We had the whole market fish grilled and it was perfectly cooked with crisp skin and perfect scores. The coconut rice was just sweet enough and a great compliment to the salty fish. Another guest had the flat iron steak and it was cooked just as she asked and splendid. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, light, airy, and a beautiful place to enjoy a great meal with great friends.

Came in right at opening since we didn’t have a reservation. They were able to seat us on the screened patio which also had plastic sheeting so it didn’t really feel like we were actually outside. Brian was our server. He was very friendly and took great care of us. All of the food and drinks were great but the tuna and salmon tartare was our favorite dish of the night.

EXCELLENT all the way around. Food, service, ambience & cleanliness. And the staff was not only professional but also pleasant. We always do this twice every time we visit Kiawah.

I rarely write restaurant reviews but I felt compelled. Our experience at your establishment was beyond expectation. Having worked in food and beverage for 35 years I have a pretty high bar. I can’t help but to critique as it is my world. Tony, our server, was knowledgeable and charming.
I only see my family a few times a year and like most people on holiday, picking great restaurants is the name of the game. The raw oysters were probably the best I’ve ever had. Presentation perfection. I couldn’t decide what to have next so I went with the mussels and Brussels because…well I had too. To end the evening we all decided to partake in the eggnog cheesecake that came highly recommended and it was incredibly light and fluffy. Honestly I could go on and on. I just wanted to thank you for such an amazing experience and to let you know my sister, brother in law and Mom all raved and agree you all are one of the best in Charleston which is saying a lot. We will be return customers. Freaking top notch!

Had a great meal and experience. Server was marvelous and he helped us have a great meal. Started with oysters which was fun to compare. Then had peel and eat shrimp which was chilled and delicious. Then had yellowtail which was great. Dessert was beautiful and delicious. If in the area we would certainly go back

This “USED” to be one of our go to spots we would recommend to our clients to visit. Usually when dining here service is top notch and our server is on-point. Sadly tonight the service did not meet prior visits or their high menu price point. While the food was good, our server was very disengaged and inattentive throughout the night.  We felt ignored, empty drinks, missing silverware and it took a long time to get our orders taken and served. While the atmosphere was ok (porch) the service detracted from the overall experience. The service was so bad we decided we would opt out for desserts and go somewhere else.

A nice little break from what we were used to downtown. Server was very friendly and attentive. You could tell what they had was fresh with the raw bar and open kitchen. The raw moved quick but the cooked dishes took a little time. It would be a good idea to get a drink and an app if you’re not in a hurry. Overall a fairly pleasant experience.
