Surma Ethiopian Restaurant in Garland is a hidden gem. The food is authentic, fresh, and full of flavor. You can really tell they use the best quality meat—tender. Everything we ordered tasted homemade and traditional.
What truly sets Surma apart is the excellent customer service. The staff is welcoming, respectful, and genuinely cares about your experience. They take time to explain the dishes and make you feel at home.
If you’re looking for real Ethiopian food and quality fresh meat with top-quality ingredients and outstanding service, Surma is the place to go. Highly recommended!

Surma is a 5/5 star authentic restaurant. well-seasoned flavorful dishes, fresh ingredients, friendly service, and a cozy atmosphere. In house freshly slaughtered Organic quality tender meat is unmatched. It is a reminder of (Tire Siga) back home. The convenience of buying authentic spices or meat from the market side is unbeatable. The owner is very friendly and welcoming. A unique features like freshly-roasted coffee and a butcher counter adds value. If you haven’t tried Surma yet, you are missing out!

This place is not hype. If you know the owner you get best service. How how do you not plan well when you know its Timket and you have 1 waitress and one person cooking. 1hr wait is ridiculous. Wish I didn’t waste my time and money here.

We’re all diaspora and we come here to change for the better but when I see discrimination against people getting better amd fast service bc of who you know that’s disrespectful. I guess you can take a person from ethiopian but their mindset is still behind no manners and respect.

They discriminate against amongst their own customers. Their customer service depends what is your status in the community. Good luck if it’s your first visit here , they will give you the trashy and worst meat part they can get for highest price in the town . If you are a woman they think you don’t know anything about the quality of the meat. If you ask for special order, the guy at the counter calls the owner to check your familiarity on his eyes..and the owner stare at you for 10 seconds like profiling you before he accepts the request.

For meat buyers, don’t waste your money
1.if it’s your first visit ,or have no any profile according to them
2. If you are a women
3. If you are not dining in the restaurant not you not going to drink there

I recently visited Surma Ethiopian Restaurant for the first time, and it was an incredible experience. My entire group was new to Ethiopian cuisine, so I we weren’t sure where to start, but our waitress walked us through the menu, explained the different dishes, and gave thoughtful recommendations that made us feel comfortable trying something new.

The food itself was delicious! Everything tasted extremely fresh and perfectly seasoned. The grass fed beef was fantastic.

What stood out most was the warm, welcoming atmosphere. It’s clear that the staff truly care about making guests feel at home, whether they’re longtime fans of Ethiopian food or trying it for the very first time.

If you’re curious about Ethiopian cuisine—or just looking for a cozy place with incredible food and hospitality—I can’t recommend Surma highly enough. I’ll definitely be coming back!
