After a long and thoughtful renovation, the beloved Dry Dock returns as a modern seafood watering hole for locals and visitors alike. Led by award-winning chef—and now General Manager—Matt Ginn, the opening menu features expertly executed coastal favorites like broiled haddock with Ritz crust, a blackened fish sandwich (a nod to the former Dry Dock menu), fried oyster sliders, and seafood towers, to name a few. An eclectic mix of wine, beer, and a playful summer cocktail menu complements the raw bar and robust seafood offerings. The space boasts two large bars inside, a sweeping view of the Portland waterfront, and expanded outdoor deck space.

Dry Dock Seafood Tavern in Portland, Maine is an absolute must-visit. The food was incredible—fresh, perfectly prepared, and exactly what you hope for when dining on the coast. Every dish was full of flavor and beautifully presented.
What truly made the experience exceptional was our server, Kevin. He was amazing from start to finish—friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely attentive. His food recommendations were spot-on, and every suggestion he made turned out to be a perfect choice. You could tell he really knew the menu and cared about making sure we had a great experience.
Between the outstanding seafood, welcoming atmosphere, and Kevin’s top-notch service, this was one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in Portland. We’ll absolutely be back and will be asking for Kevin again!
I wish I could give them more stars!

I have been to Dry Dock a couple of times now, and I’m a big fan! Initially, I had some reservations (as usual when a new place opens up in Portland). Is it going to be a tourist trap?! Is the food going to be mediocre?! Based on my experience, the answer is no to both. The food has been incredible, the staff exceptional, and the space impressive. It’s so expansive — two whole floors, ocean views, Commercial Street views, bar seating… there’s something for everyone. Unlike its sister restaurant, Luke’s Lobster, Dry Dock doesn’t seem to get as packed (which I absolutely love), although that may change during the summer.
We’ve tried a lot of their menu and found everything quite delicious. Their burger is one of my husband’s favorites in town. Their chorizo soup and chowder are both to die for. We recently had the friend cod cheeks, and it was a hit. Their dips are also phenomenal. The ceviche was the only dish we’ve had that didn’t wow us. The addition of sweet potato was an interesting choice that I don’t think added a lot of flavor. Prices are fair when considering location and quality.
Overall, we’ve had a great experience at Dry Dock and will continue going back there. I think it’s one of the best restaurants on Commercial St.

What a fantastic place. We sat on the upstairs deck overlooking the bay. Stella was a great waitress. She helped us pick two local IPA beers to compliment our lunch. She also very enthusiasticly described the chefs special appetizer of skewarded Swordfish belly. It was absolutely worth the praise she gave it. We chose the lobster roll and fries for the main dish. Best we have ever had! There was a very large portion of lobster that was cooked perfectly and the belted was buttered and toasted. it was truly amazing! We hope to come back and have Stella help us with our next selection.

We were visiting from NYC and made Dry Dock our first stop and it did NOT disappoint!. We loved everything from the service, to the food , and even the drinks . We thought cape cod had the best seafood but correction it is here . The lobster roll was soft , buttery , packed and balanced and stole the show.
Special shout out to our waiter , Chris for great recommendations of what to get and the best tour spots in Maine.
DRY DOCK will most definitely being seeing us again!

I loved stepping into Dry Dock and Tavern. It felt like stepping back in time (those chairs and bar stools, the shelving behind the bar, the beams and staircase to the second floor … all perfect for the place!), and the view of the wharf reminds you where you are at all times. The staff was kind, and attentive, and the food was good (we ordered the fish chowder, kale Caesar and blackened haddock sandwich). In warmer weather, the patio off the back looks like a nice spot to spend an afternoon!

We had a lovely time here eating steamed lobster and oysters. Prices are reasonable on the Lobster and they were excellent with drawn butter. A very cool restaurant! Its located in a historic building that hasn’t changed its exterior in about 100 years. A good place for a slightly nicer dinner without being stuffy, and most of the patrons were young professionals on dates or getting group drinks.

I love going to Portland once or twice a year and this time was a spontaneous trip so my boyfriend and I didn’t have anywhere for a dinner reservation. I’m so glad we didn’t at our usual spots because we walked around and ended up at Dry Dock. We got seated by the window and had a great night view of the water and some of the other restaurants. My boyfriend got one of the cocktails served in a fish which was such a fun surprise! I got 3 oysters for myself and they were easily some of the freshest I’ve ever had. We split the mussels, an amazing choice. That broth would’ve been eaten by me as a soup it was so good. My boyfriend got the steak frites, perfectly cooked with fries and a side arugula salad along with an aioli. He was obsessed! I ended with the tuna crudo and it was so fresh and delicious. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable, along with all the other staff. I’m so glad we ended up here as we will be back for more the next time we come to Portland for sure. 10/10!!

Guys! They’re back! All the sweet memories plus: the perfect Bloody Mary remains perfect, a seal swam around throughout lunch, the fish & chips are amazing (beautifully battered & cooked and so fresh!) An excellent lunch! Thanks to Chris for great service on the deck!

The best meal and experience in Portland. On our 3rd day we finally made it to Dry Dock. By far the best service and food. We can’t say enough about the mussels! The sauce was absolutely delicious. The Halibut the best we have had anywhere. Perfectly seared and flaky. Service and meal timing was spot on. This will be a regular stop when we are in Portland!

A beautiful renovation of one of our go-to places; open and airy with significant upgrades to the interior dining area, bar and expanded deck overlooking the working waterfront. Food was well prepared, but gets 4 stars due to limited menu selections, and price paired with smaller quantity. Service was quick and pleasant, but it was noontime on a cold February day so there were only a few tables occupied. Given the attention to detail, I’m sure that they will staff up as the summer crowds return. Overall, Dry Dock should be on any seafood lover’s agenda on a visit to Portland’s Old Port. We look forward to returning, especially when the deck opens in the spring.
