It’s my new favorite place! They have half-price wine bottles on Tuesdays, great service, and the staff are so easy to talk to. Perfect cozy spot for a date night.

Came in for a date night dinner, very cozy and intimate atmosphere in the dining room. Enjoyed everything we ate, it was all very light and fresh- brown butter sage gnocchi almost melted in our mouths. Really loved the muscles & clams and the grouper. Server was friendly and had good recommendations for wine. Can’t wait to come back and sit on the patio!

Wonderful first time experience! The modest, ivy-covered building makes it feel like you’re walking into someone’s home, and that comfy feeling continues with the food and atmosphere. The menu is small, but I think that makes for a more well-attuned experience. It really gave off that dinner-at-home vibe, as if your mom was preparing each dish.

Our server Tim was excellent. He had solid recommendations and took great care of us.

I’d highly recommend the Tagliatelle Bolognese and the baby mixed greens salad!

Amazing in every way. Cozy and unique surroundings, looks like a house from the street. Food was delicious, fresh ingredients and cooked to perfection. Cocktail menu includes drinks not commonly seen on menus. The service was outstanding. The staff is extremely friendly, warm and attentive. I strongly recommend going for a very special experience.

We went for the first time recently but will be back for sure! It is a cozy place with great food and drinks. The wine buyer Josie was a delight! We ate off the restaurant week menu in January and can’t wait to sit on the patio in the summer!

This restaurant did not really live up to the hype. The only thing we really loved was the mushroom appetizer. That was really good! The gnocchi is popular but was not that good, I would not recommend it. We also tried the Bolognese pasta and it was good . Then we shared the fish of the day, it came with 2 small baby potatoes and 1 piece of broccoli. The fish was cooked well but lacked seasoning. Overall, I don’t think I would come here again. There back patio is really cute and the waiter was really nice but for the price I don’t think it’s worth it.

Good food in a quaint location, but overpriced. We had an appetizer of 10 gnocchi (bland) for $23. Wine bottles here cost $55+ and entrees are $45+. The grouper was very tasty. Food was fresh, homemade and quality, but not quite worthy of the price.

A Tavola feels like stepping into a time capsule that should’ve been sealed shut. The ambiance is stuck in another era—long, heavy red curtains hanging floor to ceiling like velvet tombstones, filtering out any hope of natural light. The restaurant sits inside an old Chicago house, which sounds charming until you walk into the odd little foyer featuring a staircase that leads absolutely nowhere. It’s disorienting, like walking onto the set of a play that closed years ago.

The menu doesn’t redeem the scene. For an Italian-inspired restaurant in a city that takes its food seriously, offering only four pastas feels less like a curated experience and more like the chef just stopped caring. And charging north of $20 for portions that barely register as sides? That’s not rustic simplicity—that’s capitulation.

The salads were unremarkable, the mains felt scaled for toddlers, and the bread showed up cold, which should be a crime in any kitchen with pride. The gnocchi was so flavorless it could’ve been bits of stale bread soaked in water and rolled into dumplings. It had all the soul of airline food on a turbulent day.

The grouper was actually good—credit where it’s due—but then they buried it under what can only be described as an entire head of broccoli. Not florets. Not anything trimmed or plated with intent. Just a steamed green tree trunk dominating three-quarters of the dish, like someone in the back lost interest halfway through plating.

The one real bright spot? The service. The team was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind—doing their best with what the kitchen and concept gave them. They were the only part of the night that felt anchored in hospitality.

But Chicago is overflowing with restaurants that care—about the food, the craft, the guest. A Tavola, unfortunately, isn’t one of them. Spend your time and money somewhere that’s actually earning it.

We recently celebrated a birthday at A Tavola, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. This cozy Italian gem, tucked away in a charming converted house, offers a warm and intimate atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re dining in a friend’s home rather than a restaurant.

From the moment we walked in, the service was exceptional. The staff was incredibly welcoming and went above and beyond to make the evening special. They acknowledged my guest’s birthday with a personalized touch that felt genuinely thoughtful rather than just routine hospitality.

Now, onto the food—absolutely phenomenal. Every dish was beautifully prepared and packed with rich, authentic flavors.

Overall, A Tavola is a must-visit for anyone looking for an intimate dining experience with incredible Italian food and outstanding hospitality. Whether it’s for a special occasion or just a great meal, this restaurant delivers on all fronts.

This is a really really great spot, they really nail it. Food is killer, we had the server order for two of us and she nailed it. Mushroom app, gnocchi, tagliatelle, oxtail. All of it was really great, I’ve already recommended it a few times. Will be back!!
