By far, the best cafe I have been to yet! Has your basic coffee drinks, with seasonal specials (try the pumpkin cold foam!), small basic breakfast/lunch menu with HUGE portions! The staff were amazingly friendly. The seating seemed like it had a good flow. The cafe had enough customers coming and going that we didn’t have to wait long to find a table.

The Encounter Café is a true gem in Iowa City! The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and full of charm. The servers were incredibly kind and attentive, providing excellent service that made the whole experience feel personal and uplifting. The cinnamon rolls were out of this world—fluffy, fresh, and perfectly sweet—easily the best I’ve ever had. Their coffee was fresh and flavorful, and every dish we tried from the breakfast menu was outstanding, made with quality ingredients and served hot. If you’re looking for a heartfelt, delicious breakfast spot in Iowa City, The Encounter Café is a must-visit.

Nothing beats their cinnamon rolls! Will always recommend it to everyone. The roll is light, fluffy, plenty of cinnamon. The icing is delicious, not too sugary, and has a very nice nutty and vanilla taste.

This cafe is a ‘must stop’ location when visiting Iowa City. The coffee is awesome, the breakfast is amazing and the staff are very friendly. The lines can get long but it is surly worth the wait.

Yo! This is the place! Great atmosphere to be around. The Staff are wonderful people that are always wearing a smile on their faces. There’s this feel of home and the richness of the food. This place is a gem. Locally grown food. Freshly baked cinnamon rolls and pretzels. Amazing coffee. I had the veggie omelette and the vegetables were fresh and flavorful. You absolutely cannot leave without a cinnamon roll.

If you haven’t been here yet, you are missing out. I met friends here for coffee on a snowy Saturday morning, and it was so welcoming and cozy. Coffee? Great. My Spanish omelette? Even better. Happy we went early because eventually the place was really humming and the line to order grew significantly. This is a “do!”

Very friendly, spacious, clean and fresh. The food was presented in an exquisite manner & tasted delightful! I visited with my teenagers (boy & girl) who thought the place “looked fancy.” The orange juice is freshly squeezed and made my taste buds dance. This is a must visit establishment! Priced just right – in fact they should be charging more. We will be back again!
