If I could rate a zero I would. It took 30 minutes to get our food and there wasn’t any people in front of us. We ordered an order of tacos of beef steak and molleja but instead got charcoal tacos. The meat was black and tasted old! No joke! I will never go there again.

First time eating here. Service was nice and helpful. Before ordering we got chips (no salsa) given and charro beans; beans were okay in flavor. Ordered Taco’s bistec combo came with potato and soda have to order avocado as extra topping. Tacos were not bad the amount of meat in them is nice.

I was hoping I would enjoy their tacos, but unfortunately I did not. The tortilla is the yellow tortilla so there straight away I was disappointed. The meat felt a little on the burnt side for the panchos, the fajita should be soft.
The bistek tacos were the same, the meat was over cooked for my liking. My son wanted quesadillas with fajita but the problem was the yellow tortilla again and the overcooked fajita. The only thing that I didn’t mind was the baked potato.

I went to Taqueria 501 expecting a legit taqueria experience… and honestly it ended up being one of the biggest disappointments I’ve had at a taco spot.

Let’s start with the tortillas. Maybe I’m spoiled because I’m used to going to real taquerias that actually make their tortillas fresh. You know, warm homemade corn tortillas or soft flour tortillas made in-house. But here? Straight up store-bought flour tortillas and store-bought corn tortillas. Going to a taco place and getting grocery store tortillas is wild to me. The tortilla is literally the foundation of the taco, and when that part is lazy, the whole experience just feels off.

Then the beans. Same story. At most taquerias you expect house-made beans that taste like they were cooked in a pot in the back with real flavor. These tasted like basic canned beans that were just heated up. No depth, no homemade taste, nothing special.

At that point I was honestly thinking I could’ve gone to Taco Bell and probably had a more satisfying meal.

And to top it off, when you walk into the place there’s this super loud, high-pitched chime on the door that basically blasts your ears every time someone walks in or out. It’s so loud it actually makes the whole place feel chaotic. Every few seconds you hear this piercing ding that makes you jump.

For a place that calls itself a taqueria, not making fresh tortillas and serving canned beans is already disappointing. Add the ear-blasting door chime on top of it and the whole experience just felt frustrating.

Overall: extremely disappointing.

Ordered the Tacos Mixtos 281 and they were delicious. Very well served and lemonade was refreshing. Customer service was on point and we were well taken care of. Will definitely come back to try different plates.

Edit to add: the restroom was clean

So I’ve been wanting to try this place for awhile but I was a bit hesitant because I never saw that it looked busy. I finally tried it with my family and we loved it. The food is really good and very good sized portions, even from the kids menu. The atmosphere is nice and they have some really good music playing. While there there was a steady stream of people going in.

We have the papa, tacos, quesadillas, and beans. They were all great, and we will definitely be going back.

What a great place. Myself and my spouse are a botana w/ chicken and fajitas for 2 and it comes with Lettuce, tomatoes, onion, grilled onions, jalapenos, Crema and your choice of tortillas. The portions are plenty. We also had the Frijoles preparados, so good especially with the queso fresco, I may have finished half the green salsa by myself, I probably gained some weight but I will be coming back again when I’m in the area to try their other dishes. There is so much room in their dining area, your tables are not close together, really great service and our waitresses were really helpful and respectful.

Headed out today to grab tacos for dinner. It was a toss-up between a couple of places, but we decided on Taqueria 501 Tacos & Burgers on 10th Street, McAllen. This was our second visit, and let me start by saying the second time was even better than the first! The lemonade is freshly squeezed, and our guacamole appetizer was amazingly great. Super fresh avocados! Chips on point. Their complementary serving of pico de gallo was perfect. Our entrees were just as good.

I love tacos de trompo, and most recently, my go-to place on 83 began serving them a little on the greasy side. Not at 501. They were perfect. The pineapple was well-balanced. The serving of my papa was fitting for the dish. Overall, my dish was amazing. 501 served up some of the best tacos de trompo I’ve had.

My wife, this time around, chose the Hamburguesa Mexicana. This burger was no joke. Well-served, rich flavor, and no 1/4 lb patty or less. It was closer to 1/2 lb, maybe a little more than 1/2 lb. She allowed me to take a few bites, and it was oh so good. The fries were served hot and crispy. Definitely a well-served dish. My son’s gringas were well-served and tasted great. No sides to this dish. He did, however, only eat half. 🙂

The restaurant’s overall cleanliness is superb. Shiny floors, clean tables, and well-lit. The mood overall feels positive. The restaurant staff is attentive and well-mannered. Bathrooms are just as clean.

I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for some good hamburguesas and some great-tasting tacos de trompo. Do not pass this up!

The staff here is very friendly and attentive, they have plenty of options to choose from, for my visit I went for the hamburger #1 (which is basically the Mexican style burger but with sausages).

The burger was pretty good, it was very filling the meat was missing something a bit of seasoning,I would recommend adding grilled spiced onions to it for extra flavor, I like that they give you a jalapeño wrapped in grilled cheese.

The burger comes with french fries and they were delicious, hot and crispy made fresh to order.

They serve you chips with salsa and charro beans while you wait.

Overall great place for food with plenty of options, I will return in the future and try more things.
