5/5 Stars – A Must-Stop Pitstop for Travelers!
We are from Chicago and were driving down to Florida when we found this place and decided we had to stop. We are so glad we did!
The meat was incredibly flavorful, and they offer multiple sauce options to suit any taste. We ordered the 3 rib plate, which comes with a drink (sweet tea – naturally) and a side. These were thick, meaty ribs with the perfect amount of smoke—easily some of the best we’ve had.
The sides, however, were the real stars of the show:
The Greens: These are the best greens we have ever had, period. Every bite had the perfect balance of heat and tenderness.
Camp Stew: This was quite spectacular on its own—hearty, savory, and cooked to perfection.
If you’re passing through Montgomery on I-65 or I-85, do yourself a favor and pull off for Fatman’s Smokehouse BBQ. It’s phenomenal Southern BBQ that lives up to the hype!

It my families favorite place to go and eat. The customer service is amazing and so is the food. My 1 year old was DEVOURING rib meat off her daddy’s container of food. I also will never leave this place without funnel cake fries the kiddos and hubby always go for the banana pudding though, haha. The chicken tenders, coming from a chicken nugget/tender lover whom is also very picky, these are super delicious. Only other place I even order tenders from that I enjoy is Long John Silvers. They just have a different breading and I LOVE it. Oh and corn nuggets. I love corn nuggets.

Stopped in for lunch on a drive as we passed through Montgomery and were quite pleased! Fairly busy, but not packed, around noon on the Saturday of July 4th weekend. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and our food was ready blisteringly fast. Indoor dining area is a bit bare bones and dim, but the extensive table of condiments, including four of their own bbq sauces, was awesome.
Ordered a pulled pork plate with mac & cheese and baked beans as sides, bbq fries, and a side order of corn nuggets. The pork was great quality (especially topped with hot bbq, normal bbq, and/or white bbq sauces). The sides were good, but average. Price for everything was a bargain, though, especially for bbq!

It was ok. Not over the moon about it. We got what was supposed to be 3 chicken tenders. We got two and a half. When I asked about it she replied “I can’t help the size of the tenders.” It was literally cut in half. Not just a small tender. The food was good though. Not super, just good.

Quick stop for lunch. First time for us to try it out. We lived in Texas for awhile and since we left we sure missed BBQ. This was really good. We only tried the pulled pork plate added their regular BBQ sauce and was so good. I got Mac n cheese and their camp stew as sides. Camp stew is definitely a win in my book. Atmosphere is definitely BBQ. Would definitely go back to try their other dishes and will have to try their breakfast. Oh and our food was ready so fast, no wait.

Love this “mom & pop” style restaurant! We ordered the pulled pork plates & pulled pork sandwiches. Turnip greens, baked beans, potato salad, banana pudding, & fries for our various sides. The food was delicious & the staff were “southern friendly!” We will definitely be back when we pass near this area again

This stop was part of our”BBQ Road Trip 2025. It is a great choice for authentic everything.
Their BBQ has hints of Carolina sweetness, but mix in the spicy and you have a delicious original.
Tons had plenty of smoke, great potatoes salad( sweet version) and my favorite was the Baked Beans.

Locally owned BBQ that’s been here for years. Somehow this was my first time and I stopped by on a whim. I was very pleased with my decision and left full. The pulled pork was excellent and the corn nuggets and mac and cheese were good. I like the local feel and the service was polite and very fast. The portions were large and the price was barely over ten dollars. This type of place must be protected but with the full parking lot full thirty minutes until closing I think they will be around for a while

First time trying this place the line was out the door but it moved quickly. Got the bbq plate with drink and two sides (fries and banana pudding). OMG I was not prepared for how good this was the meat alone without bbq sauce was so moist and flavorful and with the sauce. Heaven. I will be going back. It was worth every penny (which was reasonably priced to begin with) I had enough for two more meals worth at home.

The real test of barbecue is simple, is it smoked enough and moist enough to not need barbecue sauce? The answer at Fat Man’s Barbecue is an astounding yes!
Ribs – BBQ smoke flavor the entire way through and very moist. I had four of them and only use the tiny bit of barbecue sauce once just to see what the flavor was like.
Pork- HOLY PIG! It is very rare that you get smoked pulled pork that is smoked the entire way through and also so moist it does not need barbecue sauce. This one however, is both of those things! They do add a little bit of vinegar and sugar after they pull it which gives it a nice sweet taste, so it does not need barbecue sauce either.
Wings – crazy, crazy, crazy moist! Smoke flavor the whole way through and a delight to eat.
Angel food cake – NUM NUM!!
Super nice people and super quick service.
