It’s not bad, but it isn’t phenomenal at the price point IMO. The following covers thoughts on food, staff, and atmosphere.
On food: we got 3 things: plate of fry bread and hummus, wedge salad, and brisket Mac and cheese. The fry bread and hummus was great– reminded me that I love hummus and was flavorful without being too filling before a meal.
Wedge salad was reported to be “good.” (I was given no other detail here, despite pressing…)
I have beef with the brisket (pun intended; similar beef with the hotel “beignets” — the bread density is honestly closer to a chinese fried donut than a beignet…) There was something off. And I should’ve immediately picked it up seeing that there was no other section of brisket on the menu, but I didn’t listen to myself.
After waiting an hour I got a textural nightmare. Mac and cheese was perfectly fine (cheese sauce may have been a pinch gritty from whatever they did with the roux? But barely noticeable) but the cubes of “burnt ends” on top were a mix of tough meat cubes and pure blocks of fat. Like 50/50 ratio. Burnt ends can be fatty, sure, but it felt to me like the bit of meat they used for me wasn’t even trimmed. And it was cooked like a short order steak otherwise. I’m a bit bamboozled. Not sure that whatever prep they did for it is really working. It’s probably fine if you’re A-OK gobbling down cubes of fat with the occasional bite of tough meat. Dunno if I would have paid like 35$ for the experience.
Service: They may have been short some staff tonight, so I’ll be gentle on the limited visits from wait staff (does not appear to be an atmosphere thing, otherwise water refills and the like with tables around us would’ve been more frequent). The folks that were here were great.
Atmosphere: sat outside instead of in. Seemed to have a bit of a dull roar in the background from other guests in different sections of outdoor seating. Thats expected. View is good. What threw me for a loop, though, is that there was also a bit of a dull roar inside. May have something to do with a high ceiling without anything to dampen the sound hanging down. That made a bit of an echo and thereby a loud atmosphere. It’s a real shame, because the room is a lovely circular shape with mood lighting and what should’ve been a quieter indoor atmosphere.
The next evening we had another great server with just okay food. The prime rib was underwhelming and my kids food looked like something they would get at the school cafeteria.
Don’t get me started on the basic breakfast.
Do better and take pride in your skill.
They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner here.
For breakfasts there are continental and full buffer plus a la carte menu (a la carte was served reasonably fast).
Dinners were delicious though portions were on the larger side. Tables are standing far enough from each other, this helps with the atmosphere.
Resort hosts a lot of families, so they have children buffet at dinner time, which was pretty popular.
Tried the full breakfast buffet and it was pretty good, but not worth the price difference between the full buffet ($27) and the continental ($17).
The only thing you’re getting extra is the omelettes, pancake, waffles, and your coffee included in the full buffet.
The staff are amazing, and the decor is fantastic. Definitely worth trying it out while staying at the JW Marriott.
